Ally Kayton recognized a recurring problem after more than 25 years in health care. Despite advances in medicine, many patients were still navigating a fragmented system where mental health, hormones, lifestyle, and physical well-being were treated as separate concerns. As a clinician, she saw firsthand how often people were left trying to connect the dots on their own.

Rather than accepting that reality, Kayton decided to build something different.

That decision led to the creation of Sage & Stone Holistic Counseling & Integrative Health, a concierge-style practice rooted in the belief that healing is most effective when the whole person is considered. The name reflects that philosophy: Sage represents wisdom and healing, while Stone symbolizes resilience and grounding—together offering the guidance and support Kayton believes every individual deserves.

The Lessons I Learned In The NICU

Long before she became the founder of Sage & Stone, Kayton spent decades caring for some of the most fragile patients in medicine.

As a board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner, she worked with families navigating high-risk pregnancies, premature births, lengthy NICU stays, and, in some cases, unimaginable loss.

Kayton said, “The NICU taught me that healing is rarely limited to a single diagnosis. What people carry emotionally often affects every aspect of their health long after the immediate medical event has ended.”

Over time, she noticed that many women continued to struggle long after the medical crisis had passed. Anxiety, burnout, grief, and hormonal changes were often addressed separately rather than as interconnected pieces of a larger picture.

The experience ultimately shaped how Kayton views health care today. It also planted the seeds for what would later become Sage & Stone.

Kayton explained, “Working in the NICU gave me a unique perspective on how deeply connected physical health, emotional health, stress, and support systems can be. It made me want to help women earlier in the process rather than waiting until they reached a crisis point.”

Seeing The Gaps In Traditional Care

As Kayton expanded her education and clinical training, she began to recognize a challenge that extended far beyond the NICU. Patients often worked with multiple providers for different concerns while still feeling no closer to understanding why they didn’t feel well.

Kayton explained, “Mental health, hormones, stress, lifestyle, and nervous system health are deeply connected. Yet most health care systems are designed to treat those concerns separately.”

The more she observed, the more convinced she became that meaningful healing requires a more integrated approach—one that addresses emotional, physical, and lifestyle factors together rather than as separate issues.

Why I Built Sage & Stone

The more Kayton listened to patients, the more she realized that many were facing the same frustration. They were searching for answers but often found themselves moving between providers, treatments, and diagnoses without ever feeling truly understood.

Rather than continuing to work within a fragmented model of care, she decided to create something different.

Kayton said, “I wanted to build the kind of practice I felt was missing. Women deserve a place where they feel seen, heard, and supported as a whole person, not treated as a collection of symptoms.”

To bring that vision to life, Kayton expanded her expertise beyond neonatal medicine. She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and credentials as an Integrative Health Practitioner.

In 2026, she expanded Sage & Stone Holistic Counseling & Integrative Health into a concierge-style integrative wellness practice designed to address the connection between emotional wellness, nervous system regulation, hormones, lifestyle, and overall health.

For Kayton, the goal was never to create a high-volume clinic. Instead, she envisioned a relationship-centered practice where patients have the time, support, and personalized guidance needed to understand what may be contributing to their symptoms and challenges.

Today, Sage & Stone reflects the philosophy that inspired its name: combining wisdom, healing, resilience, and support to help individuals navigate life’s most challenging transitions with confidence and clarity.

Why Concierge Care Matters

For Kayton, concierge care is not about exclusivity. It is about creating the time and space necessary for meaningful conversations and personalized care. Throughout her career, she saw how rushed appointments often left patients feeling frustrated and unheard.

Kayton shared, “Meaningful healing often requires conversations that simply don’t fit into a rushed appointment. People deserve the opportunity to tell their stories, ask questions, and feel like active participants in their care.”

That philosophy has become a cornerstone of Sage & Stone. Rather than focusing solely on symptom management, the practice is designed to help individuals better understand the factors influencing their overall well-being and create a personalized path forward.

The Future Of Integrative Health Care

As health care continues to evolve, Kayton believes the future lies in more connected, whole-person approaches that recognize the relationship between emotional and physical health and lifestyle factors.

She sees growing demand for care that addresses root causes rather than simply managing symptoms.

Kayton said, “My goal has never been to help people simply manage symptoms. My goal is to help them understand what’s driving those symptoms so they can move forward feeling stronger, healthier, and more empowered.”

Through Sage & Stone, Kayton is building the kind of practice she believes health care needs more of: relationship-centered, proactive, and designed to address the root causes of complex health challenges.
