Not all world records are set in stadiums. Some are created on remote desert roads, through sweltering heat and sheer determination, on the back of a tandem bicycle built for two.
Lady JB Owen and her husband Peter Giesin have recently accomplished something few could have imagined: they are the first couple to cycle the entire Baja California Peninsula, both southbound and northbound, on a tandem bicycle. From Calgary to Cabo in 2023, and now from Cabo to San Diego in 2025, they’ve ventured through some of the toughest terrain in North America not once, but twice.
And they’re still going.
Their current expedition continues north, with the goal of reaching Homer, Alaska, on an epic 9,000+ km journey that includes 305,000 feet of elevation gain—the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest ten times. But for Lady JB and Peter, this ride is about more than the miles. It’s about a mission: to Ignite Humanity™.
Riding for Something Bigger
At the heart of this world record-setting adventure lies a deeply personal and profoundly global cause—building 10,000 eco-friendly, solar-powered Inspiration Classrooms™ around the world. These schools, made from recycled materials, offer more than just education. They are designed as symbols of transformation—spaces that uplift communities, expand opportunities, and teach the next generation to rise.
“This isn’t just a cycling achievement,” says Lady JB. “It’s a beacon. Every turn of our pedals is a message to the world: when you lead with purpose, remarkable things become possible.”
Leading with Heart, Not Hype
As the founder of Ignite Publishing, Lady JB has helped over 800 authors share their stories and transform lives. Through her speaker platform IgniteX™, the large-scale event Gatherama™, and her global literacy initiative, she has assisted thousands in finding their voice, stepping into leadership, and creating real-world impact.
Yet, it’s not the scale of her work that defines her leadership—it’s the intention behind it.
“Everything I do is grounded in elevation,” she shares. “Elevating minds, stories, communities, and the way we see what’s possible.”
Tandem as a Metaphor

Cycling 9,000 kilometers on a tandem bike isn’t just physically demanding—it’s also emotionally revealing. Each day brings lessons in patience, timing, trust, and balance. Lady JB rides at the front, steering and pacing, while Peter rides behind, powering and stabilizing their journey. Together, they embody a new kind of leadership—collaborative, conscious, and committed.
“There’s a rhythm to tandem riding,” Peter explains. “It’s about tuning into each other’s energy, knowing when to push, when to rest, and when to simply be present.”
From long desert stretches in Baja to coastal climbs and mountain passes, their journey has tested every part of them, but it’s also revealed a deeper kind of strength. One rooted in unity.
Literacy as Legacy
Though their wheels are in constant motion, the core of their mission remains stillness: the stillness of a child discovering a book, the quiet growth of a mind being awakened, the calm that comes after a community gains access to clean water and safe learning spaces.
Each Inspiration Classroom they fund brings education, solar power, desalinated drinking water, and eco-conscious design to places that need it most. These schools are built to last—and to spark change long after the pedals stop turning.
“Literacy is liberation,” says Lady JB. “It’s the foundation for empathy, leadership, and innovation. It’s how we build a better future.”
Love in Action

What makes this journey even more impactful is that it’s fueled by love, not just for the mission, but between the riders themselves. Lady JB and Peter’s ride is a love story in motion—one of shared dreams, unwavering support, and aligned values. From cycling through storms to celebrating milestones, their bond is the driving force behind their impact.
Their record-breaking Baja crossing wasn’t simply a triumph of endurance—it was a statement of what can happen when two people are aligned in vision and purpose.
What Today’s Leaders Can Learn
This isn’t just a story for cyclists—it’s a lesson for every leader. Whether you’re building a business, growing a movement, or trying to create lasting change, Lady JB’s journey offers valuable insights:
- Purpose is a powerful motivator.
- True leadership is built on trust.
- Legacy is created by lifting others, not oneself.
- When aligned with love, even the most challenging climbs feel meaningful.
The Ride Continues
Having arrived in San Diego, the journey turns north again. With thousands more kilometers to go and countless communities yet to be touched, the mission is far from over.
But already, a significant mark has been made. Not just in the record books—but in the lives inspired, the classrooms funded, and the message that’s resonating more strongly every day: You don’t need to ride alone to make a difference. You just need to ride with your heart.
