Celebrating 7 Years of Culture, Community, and Unapologetic Storytelling
In a media landscape often shaped by fleeting trends, Compulsive Magazine has managed to carve out a distinct and enduring presence. Now celebrating 7 years in business, this dynamic, culture-rooted publication continues to evolve as a platform where authenticity is central, community matters, and each story aims to offer meaning.
At its core is a strong foundation: a mother and daughter duo, Dr. Cookie Humphrey and Breona Moore, who turned their shared vision into a respected brand. What began as an idea to spotlight the brilliance of real people has grown into a well-regarded print and digital magazine, known for its blend of culture, commentary, and creativity.
A Vision Built on Legacy
When Dr. Cookie Humphrey and Breona Moore launched Compulsive Magazine in 2018, their aim was not to simply add to the crowded field of lifestyle magazines. Their ambition was to build something that could resonate on a deeper level—one that uplifts, informs, and offers a perspective that reflects the world in a more inclusive, unapologetic way.
“From the start, our goal was clear: to celebrate ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and extraordinary people doing ordinary things,” says Dr. Cookie. “Everyone has a story worth telling, and we knew those stories deserved a platform that would present them with style and substance.”
Their editorial approach has remained steady, consistently emphasizing community organizers, creatives, and entrepreneurs alongside celebrities and public figures. This mission-driven balance is part of what has helped Compulsive become a favorite among readers seeking authenticity, depth, and diverse representation.
From Local to Global

As the magazine has grown, so has its reach. What began as a grassroots New York-based print publication has now expanded its availability both in print at CompulsiveMagazine.com and digitally through Magzter.com, with readers from the U.S. and around the world.
Each issue of Compulsive is carefully curated, blending interviews, profiles, fashion, music, wellness, and social commentary. The stories are as visually captivating as they are significant—featuring striking photography, bold designs, and voices that resonate.
“We aren’t chasing trends,” says Creative Director Breona Moore. “We’re shaping culture through the lens of authenticity. We honor the people whose voices move the world—whether they’re household names or not.”
Celebrating the Culture: Who’s Been Featured
Over the years, Compulsive has had the privilege of showcasing a remarkable array of talent and cultural influencers. Among them:
- Meagan Good, actress, producer, and advocate
- Paige Hurd, actress with a growing impact in the industry
- VanVan, a rising artist shaping Hip Hop creative expression
- Dr. Antwan “Amadeus” Thompson, music director, producer, and educator
Alongside musicians, authors, entrepreneurs, educators, wellness experts, and fearless creatives from all walks of life.
While the celebrity features do draw attention, it is the balance between fame and everyday people that gives Compulsive its heart. Readers may come for the exclusive interviews—but they stay for the deeply impactful stories of those who are making meaningful changes in their communities, industries, and personal lives.
7 Years of Impact
Sustaining and growing within independent media is no easy feat—especially as a Black-owned, women-led publication. But Compulsive is driven by resilience. It is propelled by purpose. And it reflects the legacy of two women who continue to inspire others, push boundaries, and give a platform to voices too often excluded from mainstream narratives.
As the magazine looks ahead to its next chapter, readers can expect even more inspiring features, events, digital expansions, and potential collaborations. “We’re not slowing down,” says Breona. “If anything, we’re just getting started.”
From its foundation in storytelling to its vision for the future, Compulsive Magazine remains a celebration of culture, community, and courage. It’s a space where stories find their voice, and where legacy is crafted and shared.
Because when a story is told with purpose, it becomes more than just a story.
It becomes compulsive.
