A seasoned energy industry professional with over three decades of engineering, business development, and asset management expertise, Mark D. Knippa excels as the president and chief executive officer of Boldwater USA, LP, and Boldwater Environmental Solutions. In this capacity, Mr. Knippa developed the Boldwater USA focus into a modern-day bioremediation technology company providing a very rapid and complete removal of hydrocarbon compounds from soils and water, including diesel-based applications such as oil and gas drilling fluids, but also BTEX, benzene, and more. Boldwater Environmental Solutions focused on oilfield bio-treatment applications and services by developing an EPA-compliant and state-regulated recycling of the oil and gas drilling waste generated by oil and gas drilling and production activities.
Mr. Knippa manages the field implementation processes that eliminate hydrocarbon contamination associated with soils and water sources utilizing all-natural, non-GMO, environmentally friendly methods. Mr. Knippa also successfully received patent protection for the Rapid Remediation – Bioremediation processes for the remediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated materials.
Before starting the Boldwater companies, Mr. Knippa was part of an equity-backed Aspen Pipeline LP as a managing partner, where he contributed to the development and implementation of projects, including a low-cost off-specification high nitrogen fuel gas for an existing combined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant. The project included 63 miles of 20-inch pipeline, with gathering, compression, dew point control processing, and dehydration for incoming natural gas production. During the early stages of his career, Mr. Knippa gained valuable industry expertise as a facility engineer with Enron Gas Pipeline Operating Company and advanced to become an asset manager and later a director of project origination at Enron Capital and Trade where he oversaw planning, engineering, and construction of the energy-related assets. Mr. Knippa also managed the contract structuring, commodity sales, and the development of the Enron Compression Service assets.
An expert in his field, Mr. Knippa completed programs such as Corporate Financial Management offered by Rice University Executive Education. He completed a Bachelor of Science in natural gas engineering and specialized in electrical generation, natural gas compression, and gas processing at Texas A&M University in Kingsville, Texas.
While his career has been filled with highlights, he most recently developed environmentally friendly methods of bioremediating oil and gas drilling wastes and permitted the processes to recycle this material into a beneficial road base for reuse in the development of oil and gas drilling and production. Recycling of these wastes improves a company’s Sustainability metrics and reduces Greenhouse Gasses associated with drilling and production operations, and reduces hydrocarbon or TPH associated with oil and gas wastes to non-detectable levels.
Boldwater is currently preparing to offer new hydrocarbon rapid remediation bio-solutions for offshore, ocean going, as well as inland water way applications. These are bio-treatments that responders can utilize to assist in the hydrocarbon clean-up of waterborne spills impacting offshore, inland lakes, rivers, and wetland areas.
