Recognized for her expertise in web development by Marquis Who’s Who, Tammy Shipps is a senior full-stack web engineer with nearly 19 years of professional experience.
Creating a Different Future
Growing up in a rural area, Ms. Shipps initially saw her professional future leading her toward jobs connected to her small-town upbringing, such as landscaping. However, her growing interest in technology over time led her to explore new opportunities. She spent her high school years building her computer and experimenting with an old modem. After a layoff from her landscaping job, Ms. Shipps began to pursue a different future. At 17 years old, she proactively reached out to a newly opened internet company in town to discuss potential job opportunities. Her enthusiasm during the interview eventually led to her first position as a web developer, marking the start of a promising career in web development.
Ms. Shipps’ professional journey includes several senior positions in web development and engineering roles. She continued to hone her skills throughout her career, taking on responsibilities that involved managing front-end and back-end tasks, ensuring accessibility, handling security and coding, and working toward making websites more inclusive and usable for all users.
Though Ms. Shipps moved away from her previous role in 2017, she returned to her current position in 2020 as a senior full-stack engineer. In this capacity, she is responsible for managing a blend of front-end and back-end tasks, handling the website’s security and coding, and ensuring the site is usable for all users, including those with disabilities.
While Ms. Shipps did not pursue a traditional higher education path, her dedication to her craft is evident in her other educational endeavors. She became certified in Adobe Analytics through the company itself.
Reaching Success
Throughout Ms. Shipps’ diverse career, her most notable accomplishment was during her time at a startup company, where her day-to-day contributions were key to the company’s growth. Her diverse skill set and knowledge helped the company expand and secure employment for more people, which, in turn, contributed to its financial stability.
Ms. Shipps attributes her success to her rural upbringing. Growing up on a farm run by her grandparents, Ms. Shipps strongly believes that her late grandfather’s encouragement and belief in her dreams played an important role in shaping her perspective.
In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Shipps volunteers with various organizations, using her skills to create graphics that help nonprofits enhance their presence. She also volunteers at her local library. Looking ahead, over the next five to ten years, she plans to travel intermittently and speak at various locations, hoping to inspire and educate the next generation of web developers.
