In the vibrant city of Memphis, where stories of resilience and success often emerge from challenging backgrounds, Myron Tate’s journey stands out as an inspiring tale of determination and community empowerment. In 1990, Myron embarked on a career that would not only shape his life but also impact the lives of many others in his community.

Myron’s introduction to the world of barbering hair began in 1990, under the guidance of his cousin who imparted the art of cutting hair. However, tragedy struck that same year when his cousin, unfortunately, passed away in March after undergoing a heart transplant. Left to navigate the path alone, Tate, originally from Mississippi, decided to master the craft on his own.

Over the years, Myron evolved from being a neighborhood barber to attending barber school. His dedication and hard work eventually led him to open his own shop in North Memphis in 2004. This transition marked a significant milestone in Tate’s life as he transformed from a learner to a mentor within the community.

Amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Myron demonstrated resilience by opening Bluff City Barber College during these uncertain times. This initiative showcased his commitment to education and community building, emphasizing that even in the face of adversity, opportunities for growth and learning can emerge.

One of the remarkable aspects of Tate’s story is his commitment to giving back to the community. Understanding the struggles that many face, especially young students and underserved youth, Tate has been offering $5 haircuts as a way to contribute positively to the lives of those around him. This initiative not only helps individuals look good but also serves as a symbol of hope and community support.

Tate’s passion for community development extends beyond the barber chair. He recognizes the challenges faced by the youth in his neighborhood, including the temptations of crime. Tate firmly believes that success is not limited to conventional paths like selling drugs or making it to the NBA. Instead, he advocates for alternative routes such as real estate and motivational speaking to inspire the youth to pursue positive and fulfilling lives.

In pursuit of his mission to make a lasting impact, Tate has established a nonprofit organization called Eagle Peak. This forward-thinking organization focuses on assisting youth who are in and out of jail, aiming to provide them with the guidance, support, and resources needed to build a better, more stable future. By offering mentorship programs, educational workshops, and employment opportunities, Tate’s goal is to empower these individuals to explore viable avenues for making a living legally, fostering personal development and societal contribution. His commitment to this cause reflects a deep-rooted belief in the potential for transformation and rehabilitation, ultimately aiming to reduce crime in the community and inspire a wave of positive change through sustained, impactful engagement.

Tate’s journey from being a novice barber in 1990 to a respected community advocate today showcases the transformative power of perseverance and community engagement. His story serves as an inspiration for others, proving that with determination and a commitment to giving back, Myron Tate demonstrates how one person can make a significant difference in the lives of those around them, fostering positive change and unity within the community.
