Milton Howery III, widely known as “Milton Memphis,” is a proud native of Memphis who has become an influential figure as a writer, publicist, creative, and entertainment and tourism professional. With 16 years of experience in the industry, he has cultivated a career dedicated to enhancing Memphis’ cultural and entertainment landscape. His passion for music, networking, and tourism has contributed to his role as an important figure in the city’s creative and business communities.

In 2012, Milton founded Milton Memphis Entertainment, a platform designed to support and promote local artists. Through this venture, he organized concerts and events, including the well-received I Am Music concert series, which helped provide exposure and opportunities for emerging talent in Memphis. Recognizing the need for more professional networking spaces in the city, he launched The Link Up Memphis in 2017. This event aims to foster connections among professionals from various industries, encouraging potential collaboration and community growth. His efforts appear to have helped strengthen the local creative scene, contributing to Memphis’ reputation as a hub for artistic and professional synergy.

Currently serving as the Vice President of Marketing, Communications, & Events for the Downtown Memphis Commission, Milton plays a crucial role in marketing the city to domestic and international audiences. His leadership and vision helped shape the narrative of Memphis as a must-visit destination, highlighting its rich history, vibrant music scene, and deep cultural roots. Before stepping into this role, he served as Vice President of Marketing at Memphis Tourism and the Promotions Manager and Public Spokesperson for Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid, where he gained extensive experience in brand representation and public relations. His contributions to the field extend beyond his professional roles, as he has been actively engaged in industry organizations. He has served as the President and former Diversity and Inclusion Chair of the Memphis Public Relations Society of America board and is a member of the Executive Committee for the Public Relations Society of America Travel & Tourism Section.

Milton’s journey in entertainment began in 2007 when he worked for Bott Radio Network. He later became the Morning Show Producer for the Mike and Mandy Morning Show on WRVR The River 104.5FM. His deep connection to music and broadcasting led him to host a weekly radio show on WUMR U-92FM, The Jazz Lover, from 2009 to 2014. His academic background is equally notable, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and an Associate Degree in Computer Engineering, both of which he earned simultaneously from the University of Memphis and Southwest Tennessee Community College in May 2011. That same year, he was recognized as the Top Marketing Rep-Intern by Black Entertainment Television (BET), marking an early milestone in a career characterized by innovation and achievement.

His accomplishments have been recognized through numerous accolades. In 2017, he was honored with the Top 40 Under 40 Urban Elite Professionals Award, which acknowledges young African American leaders who work toward innovative solutions to social issues and excel in their fields. Two years later, the Memphis Business Journal further highlighted his impact by naming him a Top 40 Under 40 honoree.

Milton’s dedication to Memphis extends beyond his professional endeavors; he is a passionate advocate for the city, consistently seeking ways to amplify its cultural and economic presence on a broader scale. Whether through his work in entertainment, tourism, or community engagement, he continues to be a driving force in shaping Memphis’ future. Known affectionately as “Milton Memphis,” he remains committed to championing all things Memphis, striving to ensure that the city and its people receive the recognition they deserve.
