Matt McCormick grew up in Silicon Valley and never strayed far from his California roots. After completing his undergraduate degree at Santa Clara University and earning his MBA from CU Boulder, he spent 27 years in corporate sales and marketing, eventually rising to Vice President at Time Warner and Warner Bros. Today, he serves clients across the Bay Area and Southern California as a real estate professional with Coldwell Banker, bringing a level of strategic thinking that most in the industry simply do not offer.
From Corporate Boardrooms to California Homes
Matt made the switch to real estate 11 years ago, and it did not take long for him to notice something that bothered him. Too many agents, he felt, were coasting. They were not serving clients at the level they deserved. For Matt, this was unacceptable. The average California homeowner has more than 80 percent of their total net worth tied up in real estate equity. That is not just a transaction. That is a family’s entire financial foundation.
“I look at myself and our team as the new wealth managers for our clients,” Matt explained. He is currently pursuing his Series 65 and CFP credentials to formalize what he already does in practice. He developed a tool he calls the Wealth Accumulator, which helps clients build financial plans directly tied to their real estate holdings.
A Team Built for Complexity
What sets Matt apart is not just his financial mindset. His business partner, Melanie, is a land-use attorney who helps the team navigate complex transactions efficiently. She assesses properties and identifies enhancement solutions tied to state initiatives, allowing clients to navigate complex opportunities with clarity and speed.
Matt’s clients often come to him juggling advice from CPAs, financial planners, and estate attorneys all at once. Each advisor offers something valuable, but the guidance is often fragmented. Clients walk away unsure of what to do next. This is where Matt steps in. He synthesizes all the inputs into one cohesive strategy, mapping recommendations into a sequenced plan that transforms confusion into clear, tactical steps.
“Maintaining clarity, direction, and focus on the long term is where I consistently deliver results,” he said. “It’s my superpower.”
Lessons From Hollywood

Matt’s years at Warner Bros. taught him something that applies directly to real estate: timing matters. Before a major film release, the studio would put out teaser trailers months in advance, building momentum because they knew the biggest impact came on opening weekend. After that, interest would gradually decline.
Real estate works the same way. A listing’s greatest opportunity is at launch. Matt activates the market early, giving buyers a head start and creating competitive multiple offer scenarios for his sellers. On the buy side, he leverages deep relationships with agents to get his clients through the door first. With the combination of Coldwell Banker and Compass, which together hold over 60 percent market share in many California markets, his pre-marketing strategy has an even greater reach.
Consistent Results, Year After Year
The numbers speak for themselves. Matt’s team was ranked number one in both his Los Altos and Westlake Village offices in 2022 and 2023. He followed that by earning the top spot among all Coldwell Banker agents in Los Altos for 2024 and 2025.
But for Matt, it is not about the accolades. It is about the work. His father, a Cy Young Award winner with the San Francisco Giants, taught him early on that perseverance matters. “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard,” Matt recalled. That philosophy stuck with him.
A Legacy Mindset
Matt has been married to Kathy for 37 years. Their two daughters, Madison and Mallory, now live on the East Coast. Family is central to how he thinks about his work. He does not just help clients buy or sell property. He helps them create plans that establish their family legacy for generations.
His wife’s grandfather once told them something that still guides him today: “We are to serve until the end. Retirement is a man-made word.”
Matt took that to heart. He is not slowing down. He is still showing up, still serving, and still building something that lasts.
