In fashion, shoes are often overlooked, especially men’s shoes. While many feel this is changing, there are those aiming to reshape the narrative surrounding what it means to look and feel good in a pair of sneakers. Darrick Jones is one of them.
As someone who has been a sneakerhead since 2011 and turned that passion into a business in 2020, Darrick Jones has immersed himself in a world that is only now beginning to attract attention. He credits a late friend, Daquan Fountain, for pushing him to do what he loves.
“I believe [Daquan] is sending me all these blessings,” Jones says.
An Industry Filled With Challenges
Entering the sneaker industry during challenging times wasn’t easy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Darrick began reselling shoes and other types of footwear.
“No sneaker shows were going on, so it was hard to expand,” Darrick says.
Darrick’s passion for sneakers would force him to challenge the lack of physical promotions at that time and utilize a social media presence that would give his business a second chance at life. What threatened to stall his business became a challenge that Jones would face and eventually overcome. He is not one to be scared of hard work or setbacks—for him, these two elements are like fuel to a fire, pushing him to grind harder, dream bigger, and prove that failure is just a stepping stone. Where others see obstacles, Darrick sees opportunity—a chance to outwork the odds, lace up tighter, and move one step closer to the vision he’s always believed in. Every late night, every rejection, every closed door only sharpened his focus and strengthened his resolve. In his world, resilience isn’t optional—it’s the code.
If Darrick is anything, it is thankful. One of his major highlights is having his business featured in a commercial run during a major podcast. Darrick says that his love for sneakers and those who love to wear them push him to sell what he describes as “pieces of art.” For art can be of any type—paint on canvas, words on a page, or in Darrick’s case, carefully crafted sneakers that tell a story with every stitch. To him, each pair represents more than just style; it’s a form of expression, a statement of culture, and a bridge between the streets and self-worth. He pours his creativity, grit, and authenticity into every design, believing that what people wear on their feet should reflect who they are and where they’re going.
“I’m not in this for the money,” Darrick explains. “I really love the sneaker game! Sneakers are a piece of art, and it gives me a thrill knowing I am living my dream.”
One of Daricks’ major highlights includes hand-delivering a product to rapper Lil Baby. Jones personally flew to the rapper’s house and delivered it to him because, as he says, “it was important.”
A Life Changed By Sneakers
Darrick is clear that the challenges in his life have been made better by his love of sneakers and his dedication to selling them. Having been challenged by the pandemic and the loss of close friends, he strives to remain humble even as his business grows to new levels.
“I’m a very hard-working, humble person,” he shares. “I know nothing is given to me easily.”
As challenging as life has been for Darrick Jones, his love for sneakers and the art he feels they represent has shaped his life and improved his future.
Darrick’s message to those struggling in any facet of their life is clear: “No matter how hard life is, you can always perceive and accomplish your goals.”
Darrick’s story and rise to success show what hard work, dedication, and passion can do for both a person and a business.
