Long before he founded J.CHRISTOPH, Jared Lilje spent his career in the cockpit. As a

U.S. Air Force pilot, precision, accountability, and protecting lives were not ideals but

daily responsibilities. Those years shaped how he approaches craftsmanship,

leadership, and the responsibility that comes with building something meant to endure.

When his military service ended, that sense of mission did not retire with him. It became

J.CHRISTOPH, an aviation-inspired luxury handbag house made in the United States.

Lilje founded the company on a simple belief: exceptional craftsmanship can do more

than create beautiful products. It can create lasting impact.

He never set out to build a handbag company simply because he admired fashion. He

set out to build a business capable of creating meaningful, long-term impact. Luxury

offered a unique opportunity. Unlike products designed to be replaced, a beautifully

crafted handbag can be carried for decades, passed from one generation to the next,

and become part of a family’s story. Lilje believed that if a product was worthy of that

kind of longevity, it could also carry a mission worthy of being remembered. The

handbag became the medium through which craftsmanship, history, and purpose could

exist together.

“I didn’t want people to simply admire what we built,” Lilje says. “I wanted them to

become part of why we built it”

From the Cockpit to a Luxury Fashion House

Lilje spent years flying and maintaining multiple military aircraft, including the C-5

Galaxy, where the engineering and structure of aviation became an unexpected source

of design inspiration. That intimate knowledge of how aircraft are built now appears

throughout the collection in subtle ways. The way a handle connects to one of his

handbags draws directly from the control cables that pass through an aircraft’s

bulkheads, creating structural strength while quietly paying tribute to aviation

engineering.

The move from aviation to fashion might appear unexpected. For Lilje, it was simply a

continuation of the same mindset. Both professions reward discipline, attention to detail,

and respect for those who came before. Those values continue to guide every design

decision at J.CHRISTOPH.

Honoring Women Who Shaped Flight

Each J.CHRISTOPH handbag is named after a pioneering woman in aviation history,

including Katharine, Jacqueline Cochran, Raymonde de Laroche, and Jean Batten. Their achievements serve as the foundation of the brand, not simply inspiration for product Names.

Considerable historical research goes into every collection, and the design language

reflects those stories. The stitching on one handbag echoes the flying wires that once

braced the wings of early Wright aircraft. Another features a bold X-pattern inspired by

the structural supports of First World War biplanes. These details are never decorative

for their own sake. They are intentional reminders of the engineering, courage, and

innovation that defined aviation’s earliest pioneers.

For Lilje, preserving these legacies matters as much as designing the products

themselves. He believes luxury should not only inspire admiration but also spark

curiosity, introducing new generations to the women whose achievements helped shape

aviation history.

The Carry Hope Mission

The mission behind J.CHRISTOPH is the foundation of the company. Every handbag is

designed to give customers the opportunity to become part of something larger than

themselves by supporting organizations working to prevent human trafficking, rescue

victims, and restore lives.

According to the International Labour Organization, Walk Free, and the International

Organization for Migration, an estimated 50 million people were living in modern slavery

on any given day in 2021, with women and children among the most vulnerable.

Rather than treating philanthropy as an afterthought, J.CHRISTOPH was intentionally

designed so every customer participates in the company’s Carry Hope mission. With

every purchase, customers choose which nonprofit partner receives funding generated

by their handbag, transforming a luxury purchase into meaningful action.

For Lilje, honoring the pioneering women who changed aviation history and helping

protect vulnerable women and children today are expressions of the same belief: every

life has immeasurable value, and every person deserves the opportunity to pursue their

future in freedom.

Craftsmanship Made in the United States

J.CHRISTOPH handbags are crafted by skilled artisans in the United States using

carefully selected materials, including Grade One American alligator leather and

imported Italian leather. The aesthetic embraces quiet luxury, relying on proportion,

craftsmanship, and refined construction rather than oversized logos or passing trends.

That philosophy extends beyond appearance. Every handbag is designed to be carried

for years, appreciated for its craftsmanship, and ultimately passed from one generation

to the next. It is built to endure, just as the stories behind it are meant to endure.

A Brand Built to Endure

In an industry often driven by seasonal trends, Lilje is building with a longer horizon in

mind. J.CHRISTOPH exists to honor the women who helped shape aviation while

investing in the freedom and future of vulnerable women and children today. That

connection forms the foundation of the company and guides every collection it

Produces.

Lilje spent his military career protecting lives from the cockpit. Today, he approaches

that same sense of responsibility from a different perspective, building a company

where American craftsmanship, aviation history, and customer choice come together to

create lasting impact.

For him, J.CHRISTOPH is more than a luxury handbag house. It is proof that business

can preserve history, produce exceptional products, and empower discerning women to

carry something that reflects both their style and their values. Every purchase becomes

an intentional expression of what they believe matters, allowing them to create

meaningful impact through something they are proud to own.

For Jared Lilje, luxury and purpose have never been competing ideas. They have

always been part of the same mission.
