As the co-founder and owner of netGenius Inc., Ben Singleton has been recognized for his professional achievements in information technology and cybersecurity. His distinguished career began in law enforcement before entering the private sector to continue fighting crime in new high-tech arenas.
A trusted authority working to grow new expertise and prepare future leaders in his field, Mr. Singleton combines the steadfast ethics of law enforcement with the foresight of technological innovation to build solutions that safeguard organizations and individuals against cyber threats.
Building the Bridge From Law Enforcement to the Technology Sector
Mr. Singleton was the lead detective for his police department for over 10 years, specializing in narcotics and cybercrime. Through years of casework, he built foundational expertise and developed relationships with the cyber community, while bringing malicious actors to justice. Mr. Singleton also served with the U.S. Marshals Service for two years, providing further unique experiences and expertise at the federal level.
Mr. Singleton is a published author and nationally recognized expert in his field. He has lectured at intelligence conferences and taught coursework on technology-related subjects, including cybercrime, ransomware, network security, network administration, law enforcement intelligence and other topics. He continues to provide investigative knowledge and expertise for many law enforcement counterparts.
Mr. Singleton transitioned into the private sector, building several startup companies, becoming a business consultant and starting Singleton Consulting. The firm provided web development, sales and marketing, hiring, pro-forma planning, budgeting and many other services.
Mr. Singleton’s increasing business knowledge helped him make the shift when he co-founded netGenius with a former colleague from the police department. Drawing on their shared experiences in law enforcement, they built a company that offers specialized IT services to government agencies, high-net-worth individuals, and businesses.
Advocating for Safer, Better Communities in Both Virtual and Real Space
Mr. Singleton has consistently advocated for civic responsibility. His firm works with the National Child Protection Task Force, helping keep the nation’s foundational youth safe from harm. He is also the author of “In Context: Understanding Police Killings of Unarmed Civilians,” a timely book that attempts to bring greater understanding to some of the concerning social issues in the news today. Mr. Singleton has authored many articles and op-eds in local and national publications, on topics ranging from police use of force to marijuana legalization.
Mr. Singleton’s body of work has solidified his reputation as a notable expert in American policing, cybercrime, and business in general. As a cyber security expert, Mr. Singleton routinely appears in investigative reports with CBS 11’s i-Team.
Recently, netGenius expanded its New York office and grew its presence in the financial services sector. Motivated to support a developing team and contribute to the IT industry, Mr. Singleton and his team aim to broaden the company’s reach across various industries and bring their approach to IT services to the Northeast.
