Elizabeth Oghenereke Omavuezi is a firm believer that we all have a purpose in life. For her, that purpose is being a servant leader. Ms. Omavuezi puts her skills to use as a servant leader through her position as the chief executive officer and owner of Omega Staffing Solutions Inc., which provides staffing services for those with mental and physical disabilities.
A Passion for Taking Care of People
Ms. Omavuezi has had a lifelong passion for taking care of people. For almost two decades, she has built a successful career through her dedication to others, continuous learning, and her desire to give back to society. These are the values she learned from her father at his office in Nigeria. She credits her father with playing an essential role in her professional journey alongside her rich Nigerian cultural heritage, which doesnāt allow failure. Her āwarrior DNAā upbringing has imbued her with the strength to take on challenges that might make others pause.
Among the many projects Ms. Omavuezi is currently working on is the purchase of housing units to provide accommodation for the people that are served by her organization. Her mission is to help those who are physically and mentally challenged live their daily lives. One particular issue she wants to address is housing, as disabled clients sometimes struggle to find a place to live, as some landlords donāt want to rent to them.
āWe face a number of challenges trying to find accommodations for people who have disabilities. There are several issues, and we are exploring options to provide low-cost housing to them,ā Ms. Omavuezi says.
Ms. Omavuezi wants to have a significant impact on those she serves and on her community, but is aware of her limitations. āYou can never solve all of the worldās problems. You can only make an impact on what you can do,ā Ms. Omavuezi explains.
A Servant Before Leading
Ms. Omavueziās approach to leadership is rooted in her faith and the concept of a servant leader. She considers herself a lay minister focused on mental health.
āIāve always been a servant. Thatās the only reason I could lead. If you are a servant leader, you can succeed not only with the people you serve but also with your colleagues, peers, parents, employees, and everyone,ā Ms. Omavuezi says.
Building a Career in Helping Others
While pursuing a masterās degree in England, Ms. Omavuezi worked as a part-time caregiver. This is a position she would take on again after moving to the United States. It was while working as a caregiver that she decided to open her own business, and the person she was caring for became her first client. In due time, her business grew to include 85 employees, including her former manager and co-workers.
Ms. Omavuezi is proud that she can use her international academic career to help others. She earned a bachelorās in international relations and affairs from Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Nigeria, a masterās in international business and management from Solent University in the United Kingdom, and a postgraduate degree in qualifying Irish and English Law from Griffith College in Dublin, Ireland.
āWe all have a purpose in life. The general purpose in life is to serve humanity, be it our immediate family, extended family, friends, or community. I found my purpose, and this is it,ā Ms. Omavuezi says.
