In 2007, he earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Fogelman College of Business at the University of Memphis. This program included a transformative business-focused tour of the People’s Republic of China, providing Cobbins with insights into global connectivity and the economic challenges that shape international relations.
As a third-generation real estate professional, Darrell Cobbins founded Universal Commercial Real Estate, LLC, in 2007. His six-year tenure as Vice President at Cushman & Wakefield/Commercial Advisors showcased his expertise in commercial real estate brokerage and corporate advisory services. Serving notable corporations and institutions in Memphis, Cobbins established himself as a leader in the local real estate landscape.
Darrell Cobbins’ commitment to community service is evident in his various leadership roles. Notably, he was appointed to represent the 9th Congressional District on the Tennessee State Board of Education in 2017, a position he continues to hold as Vice-Chairman. As Board Chairman of the United Way of the Mid-South and former Chairman of the New Memphis Institute, Cobbins actively contributes to the betterment of his community.
Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the ‘Regional Economic Development Business Plan,’ collaborating with The Brookings Institution, the City of Memphis Government, and the Shelby County Government to shape the long-term strategic business model for the Memphis Region.

Beyond his professional achievements, Darrell Cobbins is a devoted family man, married to Mikki Cobbins for 20 years, with a 14-year-old son, Brooks Harbert Cobbins. In 2015, the couple served as Co-Chairs for the annual “Memphis Benefit Dinner” for Facing History & Ourselves, exemplifying their commitment to philanthropy.
