Successfully managing a thriving business while still maintaining a fulfilling family life is a dream many strive to achieve. For some, it’s a daily struggle. For others, it’s simply unattainable. For Brit Costa, founder of Macro Med Spa (and several other businesses), it’s an art form — one that she’s achieved through grace, efficiency, and sheer dedication.

Here, she shares the top five rules she lives by to maintain the delicate equilibrium of being a devoted mother and successful entrepreneur.

Rule #1. Set Clear Boundaries

Brit’s first secret is the foundation of her success: setting clear boundaries.

“You have to establish boundaries between work and family time,” Brit advises. “It’s essential to be fully present in both areas when needed.”

For Brit, this meant creating a structure that allowed her to manage her business remotely.

“I’ve set up my businesses in such a way that I can be with my family when it matters most,” Brit explains. “I’ve created systems and structures that allow me to manage things from afar. It’s about setting boundaries and being present in the moments that matter.

“I know I’ll never get this time back with my kids, so I’ve made it a priority.”

This approach ensures that when Brit is with her family, she is fully engaged. And when she is working, she can focus on her business without distractions. This clear demarcation of roles and responsibilities allows her to excel in both domains.

Rule #2. Build a Strong Team

Brit emphasizes the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people.

“I couldn’t do this without my incredible team,” she acknowledges. “Having reliable, skilled people who share your vision makes all the difference.”

Brit’s team at Macro Med Spa is a testament to this principle. By building a team that shares her commitment to excellence and customer care, Brit can trust that her business is in good hands — even when she’s not physically present.

This trust allows Brit to delegate minor tasks and operations to people she knows are more than capable. In doing so, she is free to focus on the strategic, creative, and logistical work of improving her business.

Rule #3. Stay Organized

Organization is another cornerstone of Brit’s success.

“Being organized helps me manage my time effectively,” she explains. She relies on a variety of tools to keep her personal and professional life in order, like calendars, digital planners, and scheduling apps.

“These tools help me stay on top of my appointments, deadlines, and family commitments,” Brit says.

As the founder of multiple businesses — The Princeton Co., From Model to Remodel, and, of course, Macro Med Spa — she simply can’t afford to rely on hastily scribbled post-it notes, passing conversations, or just memory alone. Everything must be noted and accounted for, following her carefully crafted SOPs.

By keeping everything organized, Brit can minimize stress and ensure that nothing falls through the cracks. This makes it easier for her to seamlessly switch between her roles as a full-time business owner and full-time mom.

Rule #4. Self-Care is Key

As a hands-on mother and the owner of a med spa, Brit is a steadfast advocate for self-care.

So much so, in fact, that she’s planning yet another start-up: the Self Care Coffee Club. Though it’s still in its early stages, Brit is optimistic about it — especially since it aligns so well with her personal values.

“Taking care of yourself is crucial,” she emphasizes. “You can’t pour from an empty cup. Make sure to find time for self-care, even if it’s just a few minutes a day.”

Whether it’s a quick meditation session, a brisk walk, or simply taking a few moments to breathe deeply, Brit makes sure to incorporate self-care activities into her daily routine. This practice helps her maintain her energy levels and optimize her mental clarity.

It also sets a positive example for her children and her team.

By prioritizing her well-being, Brit is better equipped to handle the demands of her business and her family life.

Rule #5. Nurture Your Network

Finally, Brit underscores the value of nurturing a supportive network.

“I love connecting with other moms and entrepreneurs,” she says with a smile. “We’re all in this together, and sharing our journeys helps us grow and learn. If you’re in the beauty or spa industry, or if you’re running your own business and need someone to talk to, I’m here.”

Brit’s commitment to building and maintaining a network of like-minded individuals provides her with a sense of community and mutual support. These connections offer valuable insights, encouragement, and a sense of camaraderie — all of which are essential for personal and professional growth.
