Brad Slater is a REALTOR® serving Chicago’s North Shore and surrounding areas.
In Brad’s Own Words
“Real estate transactions can be complicated, with countless moving parts. My role is to guide people with clarity, empathy, and steadiness, as I would if they were my own family. Realistic expectations can be difficult to hear, which is why they should be taught, not told. I want clients to know that they’re not just being heard, but listened to. The goal should always be to educate and inform clients to a point where they have the confidence in making the best decisions possible for themselves. Dependable guidance requires situational awareness and adaptability, as no two transactions are exactly alike. Effective strategy demands an understanding not just of the market, but of the psychology behind each step. Additionally, it is impossible to overstate the value of an integrity-driven reputation among colleagues. Trust and credibility with everyone involved often prove instrumental in my clients’ success.”
The Road to Real Estate
Brad’s path to real estate was not a straight line. After being raised in the Chicago area and earning his degree in Communications from Bradley University in 2000, he made his way West to Los Angeles, where he spent twelve years working as a Freelance Camera Operator on some of America’s biggest TV shows. During his last few years in California, he became quite interested in real estate and, with the help of his friend and mentor, went on to successfully flip eighteen homes over the course of about three years. In 2013, he and his wife decided it was time to plant permanent roots and call the Chicago area home. Upon arrival, he took a job working in logistics to help get their feet on the ground, but that move proved to be temporary as his passion for real estate never faded. He decided to get licensed in 2016 and hasn’t looked back.
Clients Come First
At the core of Brad’s work is a simple principle: how clients feel throughout and after the process of buying or selling a home is just as important as the transactions themselves. He often draws on his experience with rehabbing and flipping homes to ensure clients are always fully informed, and that includes pointing out potential problems. He once had a client jokingly ask if he even wanted to sell the house he was showing. His response was candid: “If you still want to buy this house after I’ve voiced my concerns, then I fully support your decision, and will do everything in my power to help make that happen for you. But the last thing I’d want is for you to make that choice with the wool pulled over your eyes.” His clients laughed and went on to purchase another home.
Commitment to Honesty
Brad will always put his client’s best interests first. He once walked away from a commission completely when a client wanted to sell his condo to their current tenant. After discussing the details of the situation, it was determined that it made more sense to work directly with a real estate attorney to complete that transaction. Yes, Brad could have collected a commission with that deal, “but at what expense?” he said. “I’m in this for the long haul and not looking for the quick buck. I want to help people, and sometimes that means not benefiting me, financially.” Brad even mentioned the pride he takes in the fact that when his kids are asked about what their Dad does for a living, their first response is, “He helps people!” and then, with further inquiry, they’ll say that he helps people buy and sell houses.
What Clients Have to Say
In looking at Brad’s online presence, a common theme runs through his reviews: people truly appreciate that he genuinely cares. Clients often highlight his attentiveness, thoughtful guidance, and dedication, but it is his sincerity and honesty that seem to leave the strongest impressions. One client noted, “Brad was equal parts agent, advisor, friend, and sometimes even therapist. Brad listened closely to our needs, provided expert advice, and negotiated tirelessly on our behalf. But what truly sets Brad apart is his caring nature.” Another client noted, “I’ve bought and sold several houses, but never had an agent like Brad. I will definitely be referring him to all my friends and family.”
Always Progressing
His proactive approach to ongoing professional growth and development is an added reflection of his genuine dedication beyond just the transactions. His continuing education includes designations as a Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES), an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), and a Seller Representative Specialist (SRS). He has also been certified as a Real Estate Negotiation Expert (RENE).
