Andrew Frost Moroz, the visionary founder of Aloha Browser, has redefined what it means to protect user privacy in the modern digital age. As the creator of the privacy-first Aloha browser for mobile devices, Moroz has made it his mission to ensure that privacy, a fundamental human right, remains accessible and free for all. His commitment to user privacy is more relevant than ever in today’s world of rapid technological advancements, particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).
A Journey from Palm to Privacy
Andrew’s passion for mobile technology dates back to the days of Palm computers. As a young developer, he saw firsthand how personal devices like smartphones and tablets were becoming integral parts of people’s daily lives. His career in mobile app development blossomed during the launch of the first iPad, a moment that sparked his interest in privacy protection. Working at Conde Nast Publishing, Andrew became keenly aware of how vulnerable users were to privacy violations as they increasingly relied on these devices to store sensitive information like photos, medical records, and documents.
This realization drove Andrew’s desire to create an app that would prioritize privacy. The existing solutions at the time were either too niche or too complex, catering mainly to professionals. He envisioned a user-friendly tool that could protect people from privacy breaches in their daily lives.
Aloha Browser: Privacy for Everyone
When Andrew exited his previous business, he was ready to pursue his vision: a browser that would protect users’ privacy by default. He assembled a team of premier professionals united by their shared passion for digital privacy. Today, Aloha Browser is renowned for its privacy-first approach, with a team that functions more like a family, driven by a mission that transcends borders and cultures.
Aloha Browser quickly became popular by offering essential privacy features—such as an unlimited free VPN, adblocking, and biometric-locked tabs—at no cost. Andrew’s team embraced Product-Led Growth (PLG) as their strategy, focusing on creating a superior product that would naturally attract users rather than relying heavily on marketing. This decision paid off, with Aloha amassing millions of users in just a few years.
The free VPN was a particularly bold move, providing a level of privacy that was, at the time, unheard of in consumer-friendly browsers. Opera introduced its free VPN the same week as Aloha, and later, when Tencent acquired Opera, Andrew’s team expanded by hiring some of Opera’s laid-off employees, who brought valuable market knowledge and contributed to Aloha’s growth.
Only later did Aloha introduce paid features, but the company never aggressively promoted them. Instead, users who believed in the Aloha mission and appreciated its functionality chose to subscribe independently.
Innovating with AI, Protecting Privacy
With the advent of artificial intelligence, new concerns about digital privacy arose. A recent YouGov survey commissioned by Aloha Browser found that 84% of respondents view online privacy as a fundamental right, while 74% are worried about AI’s potential to invade their privacy. Recognizing this growing anxiety, Andrew led Aloha to launch its Private AI Assistant, a feature that combines the benefits of AI with complete privacy protection. This tool ensures users’ anonymity by blending their queries with others, preventing “fingerprinting” or tracking individual users.
As always, Aloha Browser remains committed to protecting its users without collecting, storing, or sharing any data, continuing its tradition of offering privacy features for free.
A Vision for the Future
Andrew’s dedication to open-source technology aligns with his belief that the Internet should be a safe and private space for everyone. Aloha recently released its core code to the public, encouraging developers to build on its privacy-first foundation and contribute to the open-source community. The move highlights Aloha’s commitment to transparency and collaboration in shaping the future of the Internet.
Looking ahead, Andrew plans to continue pushing the boundaries of digital privacy while making cutting-edge technology accessible to all. Under his leadership, Aloha will keep championing user rights in the AI age, offering tools that empower individuals to stay secure in an increasingly interconnected world.
Beyond Business
Outside of his professional life, Andrew enjoys an active lifestyle. He is an avid golfer, competing in semi-professional tournaments, and has won several trophies as both a solo player and a team competitor. He also enjoys shooting sports and regularly visits the range to practice with his shotgun.
