The beauty industry attracts many people, and everyone can find their path. However, due to this industry’s wide range of directions, people get lost and don’t know what to choose for themselves. Anastasiia Pogrebnaia, a practicing brow artist, a teacher, a technology expert at the international company ELAN, and the author of the book ‘How to Become a Brow Artist,’ told us more about her profession as a brow artist. She also shared the pros and cons of working as a brow artist.

At the moment, there is a high demand for eyebrow styling among beauty industry clients – Anastasiia Pogrebnaia shares with us – so there is a need for professionals who will work with this. Moreover, as a separate direction, eyebrow styling is the newest of all. Previously, eyebrows were styled by makeup artists or hairdressers. Consequently, not everyone understands the advantages of working exclusively as an eyebrow stylist.

Benefits of working as a brow artist:

  1. To start working as a brow artist, buying a large amount of expensive materials and equipment is unnecessary. It’s never worth focusing on how much dye and other products are used by popular and experienced brow artists at the beginning of your journey. Over time, every brow artist gathers a wide assortment of materials. But at the start, this is not necessary.
  2. High salary. Even a beginner brow artist can earn around $100 in just 30-40 minutes.
  3. A wide range of services at different price points:
  • Eyebrow shaping with tinting. These services can also be performed separately.
  • Eyebrow lamination.
  • Eyebrow lightening.
  • Eyebrow thinning.

Each client will find their service even if the client has permanent makeup.

  1. In-demand additional services that increase the average bill. Clients eagerly request them to be done:
  • Eyelash tinting.
  • Facial hair removal.
  1. The brow artist can work either on a couch or by the mirror, providing greater flexibility for the work.
  2. A brow artist helps people become more confident by, for instance, correcting eyebrow asymmetry. In this way, the brow artist makes the appearance more harmonious and aesthetic.

Cons of working as a brow artist:

  1. Unstable salary at the beginning of the journey.
  2. You must work hard to hone your skills and build your client base.
  3. It is necessary to constantly improve qualifications to learn new work methods.
  4. The results of the work are not always predictable, and sometimes, adjustments to the eyebrows are necessary. It’s also important to know how to do that.
  5. You need to know how to apply dye to the eyebrows and understand the structure of the skin and hair. Knowing the chemistry of the dye, compositions for lamination, etc., is essential. This knowledge is necessary to perform a safe procedure for the client.

Brow artists aren’t just about working with clients – shares Anastasiia Pogrebnaia. It’s a multifaceted job in many aspects. Of course, initially, the artist works with clients to build a foundation. Then, if they want to, the brow artist starts to progress, participating in beauty championships and winning prizes. Later, the brow artist begins conducting master classes for other brow artists and serves as a judge in championships. This way, their personal brand grows, they gain followers, and their fan base expands on social media.

At this moment, the brow artist discovers other paths for development. For example, they can:

  • expand the range of their services, train for another profession, such as a permanent makeup artist;
  • open their own beauty salon;
  • open their own shop selling beauty supplies;
  • establish their own training school for eyebrows;
  • establish their own production of beauty products for beauty professionals;

There are many other development options as well.

Anastasiia Pogrebnaia followed that path. Now, she’s an internationally recognized brow master. She judges brow championships, writes her book, and keeps growing.

Every brow artist can achieve success – shares Anastasiia Pogrebnaia – if they set a goal and keep moving towards it despite various obstacles.
