After over a decade in healthcare, Abigail Akinde, a dedicated NHS pharmacist and mother of two, is embracing a new chapter: helping others explore opportunities for building confidence, flexibility, and income through the travel industry. What began as a passion for exploring the world has evolved into a meaningful business—and a mission to encourage others to pursue similar possibilities.

Turning a Passion for Travel Into Purposeful Work

Abigail’s journey into the travel sector began five years ago when she was discovered on Instagram after tagging a hotel stay in Mykonos. Over the course of her life, she has visited 34 countries, and now she helps others plan memorable trips, enhance financial flexibility, and develop skills in the growing home-based travel business space. She finds the business highly enjoyable, particularly because of the opportunities to join trips with fellow independent travel agents in her network and the amazing friendships she has built along the way.

Working part-time in travel while continuing her pharmacy role, Abigail has gradually shifted to a more balanced work-life setup. With the income she has earned, she is stepping back from antisocial hours, giving her more time to spend with her young children. This change, she says, is not just about income but also about empowerment—allowing her to be more present as a parent while pursuing entrepreneurial goals.

Building a Community That Learns and Grows Together

Abigail embraces her role as a travel advisor and believes in transparency when introducing others to the travel opportunity. Her approach to business centers on honesty, mentorship, and real value. By prioritizing transparency, she has built trust and developed long-term relationships.

Her focus on quality service is evident in her personalized approach to trip planning. She uses travel tools and supplier partnerships to provide tailored and affordable itineraries for clients. She also builds genuine connections with clients—being responsive, reliable, and resourceful. This “Your Friend in Travel” mindset contributes to customer satisfaction and strengthens trust over time.

New agents working with Abigail are signposted to supplier courses, live webinars, and coaching. She tracks their progress by measuring successful bookings and their participation in educational events. There’s no requirement for prior travel industry experience, and the initial investment is typically lower compared to many other ventures. For some, the flexibility in the field can mean working from a café in Lisbon or swapping night shifts for watching sunrises in Santorini, depending on their personal goals and lifestyle choices.

With the training and resources provided, agents can learn how to plan trips, earn commission on bookings, and—if they choose—explore opportunities to build and scale their own teams. Her goal is to help others develop not only confidence in selling travel but also the competence to serve clients well.

Balancing Soft Skills and Strategy

While financial freedom is one of her goals, Abigail is just as focused on helping others grow personally and professionally. She tracks the success of those she mentors—celebrating when they launch their businesses, book consistent trips, or gain new confidence.

Abigail continues to invest in both her personal brand and professional development. She maintains an active presence on social media, sharing engaging travel content and using stories and reels to reach new audiences.

Abigail’s progress did not come without setbacks. Early on, she faced challenges gaining confidence and navigating common misunderstandings around home-based travel businesses. But instead of giving up, she embraced a growth mindset—seeking feedback, adjusting her strategy, and continuing to educate herself.

Today, Abigail hosts mentorship and opportunity calls, supports her team with encouragement, and leads by example. As a Director in Training, she’s working toward new milestones, with a focus on sustainable growth and long-term value.

Shaping a Legacy of Leadership and Support

Abigail’s story is about more than income—it’s about purpose. She believes in creating a legacy through mentorship, education, and integrity. Whether she’s helping a first-time traveler or guiding a new agent through their first booking, her approach remains consistent: support, honesty, and value-driven service.

Her efforts are also contributing to her long-term reputation as a trusted travel advisor. By building a supportive team culture and continuing to invest in her own development, Abigail is setting an example for others who want to grow their own businesses with heart and strategy.

Looking Ahead

Abigail Akinde aims to inspire others who may feel limited by traditional careers or unsure of how to start something new. As she continues to expand her impact, she remains committed to helping people create flexibility in their lives while providing reliable and personalized travel experiences.

Her personal goal is to shape a future with more financial, personal, and time flexibility: giving her the chance to spend more moments with family, connect with friends when she chooses, and continue enjoying the relationships and experiences that come with her travel business.

Her story is a reminder that even busy professionals can take bold steps toward change—with the right guidance, integrity, and willingness to grow.
