The technology business has changed sharply since the 1990s, when corporate computing depended heavily on enterprise networks, telecommunications infrastructure and systems connecting offices and data centers. By the early 2010s, smartphones and web services were changing how people accessed information and how publishers reached their audiences. In February 2012, Pew Research Center reported that 46% of American adults owned a smartphone, up from 35% in May 2011. A separate Pew study found that 55% of adult cell phone owners used their phones to go online. These changes created new demands for technology and product executives working across publishing, advertising and digital services.
Anthony S. Adams entered the technology field well before the rise of mobile publishing. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1987 to 1989 and then worked for Oceaneering International from 1989 to 1991 in commercial diving and engineering analysis. During this period, he studied subsea engineering and marine technology at the College of Oceaneering. His work included commercial diving, inspection and non-destructive testing. He also developed the Computer-Aided Inspection Reporting System, known as CAIRS, for inspection reporting. The system formed part of his early work at the intersection of engineering and computer-based systems.
Adams moved into systems integration during the early 1990s. He founded Integration Technologies in 1990, with career records also referring to the company as Adams Computer Innovations. Its listed clients included L.A. Cellular, Chevron, Texaco, Placid Oil, Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Authority, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He subsequently worked at 3Com from 1992 to 1994 as a senior systems engineer and North American consulting engineer. From 1994 to 1996, he was a consulting engineer and lead network architect at Wells Fargo. The roles placed his work within enterprise networking at a time when large organizations were expanding their interconnected computer systems.
In 1995, Adams joined FORE Systems, a networking equipment company that developed high-speed switching technology. He held several positions before becoming senior director of its Multi-Gigabit and Frame Switching Division. In 1999, General Electric Company acquired FORE Systems for approximately $4.5 billion and incorporated the business into its Marconi communications operations. Adams subsequently served as executive director and general manager of Marconi’s San Jose Technology and Research and Development Center. His career records place him in that position from 1999 through 2002. The work represented a move from network engineering and product roles into broader research, development and management responsibilities.
The telecommunications sector remained part of Adams’s work into the following decade. He served in communications systems at Cradle Technologies from 2001 to 2003 and founded Egation Communications in 2002. The California company focused on fixed-wireless broadband. Adams remained with Egation until its sale to WiLine Networks in 2004, after which he became WiLine’s senior vice president of product and network. His career therefore moved through several parts of the telecommunications business, including engineering, product development, network infrastructure and company management.
By the second half of the 2000s, Adams was working more directly in digital media and technology services. He founded Anthocaré Group in 2006 and later joined United Business Media in 2008. At UBM TechWeb, he became chief technology officer and senior vice president for Marketing Services, Product Strategy and Delivery. His responsibilities covered technology, product development and marketing services. The position also brought him into closer contact with the changing economics of digital publishing, where technology platforms increasingly supported advertising, audience development and online content.
That experience led to Ziff Davis Enterprise. In August 2011, the company appointed Adams senior vice president of products. The appointment announcement said he would oversee product strategy, product development, the product roadmap and new marketing products and solutions, while working with editorial and operations teams. In December 2011, Ziff Davis Enterprise announced that Ben Ronne had joined as director of online product management and would report directly to Adams. The announcement described Ronne’s responsibilities as including online product strategy, roadmaps and the company’s OmniDigital approach. The appointments came as Ziff Davis was expanding its digital and mobile products.
Mobile use was growing quickly during Adams’s time at Ziff Davis. Pew Research Center reported in 2012 that 17% of adult U.S. cell owners were cell-mostly internet users, meaning they relied mainly on a mobile phone for internet access. Ziff Davis Enterprise was developing mobile applications and sites for its technology brands during the same period. Contemporary company material described a mobile portfolio spanning smartphones and tablets. Adams’s position connected product development with the company’s editorial and commercial operations as publishing moved toward multiple digital formats.
Adams subsequently worked across digital publishing and marketing technology. He was associated with Ronin Brand Partners and served as senior vice president of digital at Robb Report from 2012 to 2015. In May 2016, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that TapClicks had hired him as senior vice president of product. TapClicks operated in marketing technology, extending Adams’s work into software and digital marketing products. His career records also place him at dotLuxury Network, which he co-founded in 2017, where he served in operating and product roles through 2020.
From 2020 to 2023, Adams served as publisher and chief executive of Winter Garden City Lifestyle, a local print and digital publication in Florida. The role differed from his earlier positions in enterprise technology and national media, but retained an operational and product component. In 2023, he became founding executive director of A2CEA, a private family-office structure associated with businesses in areas including artificial intelligence, agriculture, consumer products, insurance services and media. His later professional activities have also included board-level work in technology and education.
Florida Polytechnic University appointed Adams to the Florida Polytechnic University Foundation Board in 2024. The university’s Board of Trustees approved the appointment, and Foundation minutes record his welcome as a director at the May 17, 2024 meeting. Foundation records identify his previous executive positions at TapClicks, Robb Report and UBM TechWeb. Adams also joined the board of SynapseSense AI in 2025, according to his professional records. These roles place his more recent work around technology, business operations, governance and higher education.
Across more than three decades, Adams’s professional history has followed several stages of the technology business. It began with marine inspection and engineering, moved into enterprise networking and telecommunications, and later shifted toward digital products, publishing and marketing technology. His positions have included technical, product, executive and board responsibilities. The chronology does not point to a single industry specialization. Instead, it shows a career that moved between technical systems and the organizations using them, from the network infrastructure of the 1990s to the digital media and technology businesses that developed in the following decades.
