Success in business and nonprofit leadership often comes from solving problems that others overlook. Dr. April Willis is a leader who goes beyond conventional problem-solving techniques in her work, especially through her projects, community service, professional coaching, and the National Nonprofit Collaborative.
As the founder of April Willis Consulting and the National Nonprofit Collaborative, Dr. Willis helps people move ideas into action. She is engaged in diverse activities, including career development, nonprofit consulting, leadership training, community engagement, and thought leadership. Her main objective as a consultant is to assist organizations and individuals in acquiring the information they need to take further steps in their lives that lead to purpose and success.
Supporting Career Growth Through Practical Coaching
One area where Dr. Willis is making a huge impact is career development. Through April Willis Consulting, she coaches professionals interested in advancing their careers, transitioning between jobs, and building up their personal brand.
“Your resume is more than a list of jobs. It’s your story,” she said, highlighting her philosophy for resume writing.
She believes in making her clients look like a work of art on paper. She uses resume writing to showcase leadership skills, problem-solving capacity, resilience, and achievements.
She also understands that many people struggle to describe their own achievements. She states that a good resume should do more than explain your responsibilities. It should help others see your potential. This focus on storytelling has become an important part of her coaching philosophy.
Her consulting work also includes leadership coaching, executive coaching, LinkedIn optimization, and strategic planning services.
Helping Authors Bring Their Ideas to Life
Another area where Dr. Willis offers essential advice is publishing support.
Many writers who have gained valuable insights into a particular field are willing to publish a book on the subject but may find the whole process too intimidating. With the help of the Book Publishing Package, Dr. Willis assists writers in preparing their manuscripts in terms of format and structure.
“Writing a book is a big goal, but it does not have to be a confusing process,” she explains.
Through this initiative, the writer receives help in the publication of their manuscript without being distracted from their main idea. Simplifying processes and making it easier for people to concentrate on what they do best is a recurring goal in Dr. Willis’ work.
Building the National Nonprofit Collaborative
One of Dr. Willis’s most significant projects is the launch of the National Nonprofit Collaborative.
It aims to provide nonprofit professionals with access to resources, templates, guidance, webinars, and learning materials. In other words, its goal is to help nonprofit leaders spend less time creating materials from scratch and to allow them more time to focus on their organizations’ missions.
“The National Nonprofit Collaborative was created to reduce the need to start from scratch,” she has said.
Among the top five perks of being in the NNC, Dr. Willis lists the ability to request new resources, publish, receive referral benefits, share team access, and customize documents.
Community Involvement and Industry Recognition
In addition to being an executive coach and consultant, Dr. Willis is involved in various community programs and professional organizations.
This was the third consecutive year that April Willis Consulting was both a sponsor and an exhibitor at the Run4Elise event. This event raises funds to support water safety awareness and scholarships through the Swim4Elise Foundation.
Recently, she has also received recognition through a Southlake Style Award and continued involvement with the Forbes Coaches Council, where she has maintained membership for five years and serves in a leadership role within the nonprofit coaching community.
Additional recognition includes her appearance on the Longhorn 100 rankings and her ongoing visibility through speaking engagements, published articles, and national consulting projects.
Expanding Access to Knowledge and Resources
The common theme throughout Dr. April Willis’ efforts has been accessibility. Whether helping job seekers share their professional stories or supplying nonprofit leaders with pre-made resources, her projects break down barriers that prevent progress.
The National Nonprofit Collaborative project continues to expand. Consulting engagements continue to grow across a variety of industries. Authors are being assisted in disseminating their knowledge. Professionals have found themselves communicating the value they bring to the table in new ways.
These efforts show a professional who has created an infrastructure of resources to help move things forward. New projects keep emerging, and each one helps people and organizations advance further.
