ICAN Clothes has certainly established its status as a stylish clothing brand, with captivating apparel collections and high-quality fabrics. However, its purpose has always been something far beyond its aesthetic value. For founder Kelsey Battle, ICAN exists to carry a message, bold, visible, and impossible to ignore, into the everyday lives of the people who wear it.
Inspired by the motto, āI can achieve now,ā the branding isnāt just for the sake of a logo placement on a hoodie. Itās an affirmation one carries on their chest, a mantra they repeat without saying a word.
āWhether youāre a young child or youāre an adult, no matter what youāre going through, you still have the power of āI can,āā says Battle. āLife isnāt easy every day, but when you face challenges, this is a reminder that youāve got this.ā
That mindset didnāt come from theory; it came from Battleās own journey. Growing up in an environment where hope was scarce and encouragement even scarcer, he heard āyou canātā more often than anything else. There was no one to push him, no one to plant the belief that he was capable. Thatās why ICANās message is so personal to him.Ā
āIf youāre told āyou canātā over and over, youāll believe it,ā he says. āBut if you see and hear āI canā every day, on your shirt, on your hat, in your mirror, it sinks in. Imagine a schoolyard full of kids wearing that. The power of that kind of reinforcement is real.ā
The brandās origin dates back to 1999, after Battle left the Army. With a vision of building a movement, he began showcasing ICAN at trade shows across the country. Orders came in, but profit margins were thin, and for years, he funded the business through revenue from his group homes. Even while operating in the red, he refused to give up. The mission mattered too much, and one encounter proved that beyond any doubt.
At a convention, a woman approached his booth, curious about the bold ICAN lettering on display. Battle explained that it stood for āI Can Achieve Nowā and shared the story behind it. She began to cry. She told him she had been married for 27 years, had two sons, and her husband had left her for a younger woman. The simple message shifted something inside her. āI knew then it wasnāt just about money,ā Battle recalls. That moment became fuel, sustaining him for another seven years of relentless work to grow the brand. And that, he certainly did.Ā
ICANās growth has come with an expansion that aligned perfectly with Battleās vision: a childrenās line. Launched at New York Fashion Week this past July, the new range takes the ICAN mindset to an even earlier stage of life. āIf we can start building that belief in kids when theyāre young, it changes everything,ā Battle says. āWe can help create a generation that knows they can do anything, that knows they can be resilient in the face of darkness.ā
Today, ICAN continues to evolve, not as a fashion trend, but as a movement. Itās a wearable affirmation thatās traveled from convention booths to runways, from trade show racks to school hallways. And its success means more than just a thriving business for Battle. It means reinvesting in his mission as a keynote speaker and community builder, reaching those who need encouragement most.

Its growth is more than a win for a business; itās a reassurance for every person who has ever needed to hear āyou can.ā As Battle puts it, āNo one told me that I could do it when I was younger. No one was pushing me; I had to do it all by myself. But now, I get to be that key for other children, and ICAN is my way of doing that.ā
