The internationally acclaimed exhibition Fractured Horizons—a central event in the NYCxDesign 2025 Spotlight Program—was successfully held across New York and New Jersey this past May. The highly anticipated exhibition, which garnered significant attention, was spearheaded by the prominent contemporary art institution PI Art Center. It showcased a powerful convergence of creativity and technology, bringing together an eclectic mix of designers, artists, and technologists from across Asia, North America, and Europe. This multidisciplinary gathering illuminated some of the most innovative and thought-provoking works in the realms of AI-driven art, sustainable design, and immersive storytelling.
The event captivated audiences with its groundbreaking approach to blending art and technology, featuring pioneering works that pushed the boundaries of both design and digital creativity. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with forward-thinking projects that explored new artistic dimensions, from AI-generated visual art to installations designed to raise awareness about environmental sustainability. As a testament to the global nature of the event, the exhibition reflected the diverse perspectives and innovative solutions being developed by creatives worldwide, setting the stage for an inspiring dialogue between traditional artistry and emerging technological trends.
As one of the flagship events of NYCxDesign, Fractured Horizons explored the tension and synergy between cultural heritage and emerging technologies. With contributions from over 70 global creators, the exhibition drew widespread attention from across industries, earning coverage from hundreds of mainstream U.S. media outlets.
The jury panel featured leading figures from the U.S., China, and South Korea, including PI Art Center President Mr. Dolminic and renowned designer Yiwei Lin. Evaluation criteria spanned innovation, cultural significance, and social impact.
Known for her deep academic background and extensive cross-cultural expertise, Yiwei Lin brought a sharp critical insight to the judging process for Fractured Horizons. Her distinctive focus on themes like “cultural translation” and “human-tech dialogue” resonated powerfully throughout the works showcased at the exhibition. Lin’s approach emphasized the importance of understanding and bridging cultural differences while exploring how technology can enrich and challenge traditional artistic expressions.
During the exhibition, Lin actively engaged with numerous international artists, offering thoughtful critiques and professional guidance that encouraged dialogue and reflection. Yiwei Lin holds a Master’s degree in Design from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a leading voice in the integration of UX design, spatial storytelling, and technology across industries, including AI, architecture, education, healthcare, etc. In 2024, she was invited to co-curate On the Critical Point, an international exhibition at the Penn Museum. Her design practice has garnered accolades, including the iF Design Award and the Red Dot, as well as over 20 wins for mentees under her guidance in competitions such as MUSE, DIA, and DNA Paris.
As a multidisciplinary designer, curator, and researcher, Lin has garnered global recognition not only for her exceptional body of work but also for her unwavering commitment to advocating for Asian creative voices on the world stage. Her influence extends beyond her design practice, as she continues to champion the representation and amplification of underrepresented perspectives within the creative industries. Lin’s appointment as a jury member for NYCxDesign is a significant acknowledgment of her professional achievements and expertise, marking a major milestone in her illustrious career. This recognition not only solidifies her position as a leading figure in the design world but also serves as a powerful source of inspiration for emerging designers.
