Her approach, Irresistible Work + Connected Energy = Sustainable Impact™, has been influential for many clients in their personal and professional transformations.

In this interview, she discusses her distinctive style, her impact-driven philosophy of success, and how she helps individuals move from “blah” to bold, aligned action.

Katy, you are widely recognized for helping high-achieving professionals find clarity and direction at pivotal moments in their careers. What first drew you to this work, and how did your personal journey help the development of your transformational approach?

Katy Hansell: After my formative years as a banker, BCG consultant, and biotech director of strategy, I became increasingly interested in the human side of business: what drives high performance and how individuals can unlock their potential in their careers?

I was drawn to coaching as I explored how resistance, avoidance, and limiting self-belief can often hinder progress. As I worked with clients, I realized that life and work are deeply connected—optimizing one without the other is challenging. I focused on career strategy to help people find work that aligned with their primary talents. With experience working with clients at various stages of their careers and across industries, I gained insight into how to effectively manage career ladders and what it takes to make meaningful progress at each level. I also studied what makes leaders effective, resilient, and capable of creating strong learning cultures.

As my coaching journey evolved, I began to teach a growth mindset, positive intelligence, and high-performance habits, all of which have been crucial in sustaining the transformations my clients seek over the long term.

Given my consulting and banking background, I developed a strategic advisory offering for early-stage founders who are pre-VC/PE, helping them move from ideation to MVO-ready business plans and pitches.

In your recent feature on Vogue Daily, you introduced your four-part system to help professionals uncover their true calling. One step you emphasize is identifying what feels “on fire” in their soul. Could you share how this concept resonates with your clients, and how it influences their ability to make bold, aligned career moves?

Katy Hansell: A recurring theme I observe in my clients globally is a lack of attention—there are so many competing demands on our focus, and our attention span has significantly decreased, often to as little as 4 seconds.

So what truly captures our attention?

Feeling engaged. Feeling alive. Being in flow. Working on something that brings purpose and meaning.

There is a way to find work activities that not only align with your talent stack but also offer that feeling of being “on fire.”

When I’m coaching or advising someone, I experience that sense of total alignment, and the energy is generative. I encourage my clients to find work that brings them the same sense of fulfillment and alignment.

Your work centers around helping individuals create an “impact vision” that resonates deeply with who they are. Could you walk us through how this vision is crafted and how it acts as a compass for the decisions and transitions your clients make?

Katy Hansell: We are all constantly making an impact, but the question I like to pose is, “Are you making an impact you care about?”

This often leads to an insightful moment for many clients. It prompts them to reflect: “What do I truly care about?”

In our busy lives, we sometimes spend more time planning vacations than we do planning our careers.

When we stop and reflect on what impact we want to make, we begin a process of curiosity and discovery, often leading to meaningful outcomes.

The impact we seek to make is often a result of our identity, values, skills, and community.

Once an individual has determined the area they wish to impact, developing the vision becomes a clear guidepost for their decisions and actions in that area. The more they invest in specifying the impact, the stronger the vision becomes, and the more magnetic it is for both their life and work. Eventually, it becomes so compelling that it sparks a wave of positive ripple effects that can inspire others.

You’ve worked with professionals navigating some of the most pivotal transitions in their careers. What is one of the most transformational shifts you’ve witnessed in a client, and how did your framework play a role in facilitating that change?

Katy Hansell: Transformational shifts often happen when someone taps into their inner resourcefulness and allows their deeper desires to surface.

When we aim for a transformation in life or work, and it becomes clear in our awareness, we can begin shifting our energy and adopting new ways of being that align with that transformation.

Support is key, especially during larger shifts. The more significant the change, the more likely resistance and avoidance will arise.

My coaching programs are designed to address this resistance and work with it, rather than against it. Larger pivots often require an identity shift.

I’ve seen clients make profound changes, such as stay-at-home moms transitioning into leadership roles, individuals shifting from academia to investment banking, or solopreneurs launching initiatives that impact sustainability for large institutions.

I believe that, with the right support, every client can achieve the transformation they seek, and this belief often catalyzes their change.

As someone who combines emotional intelligence, business acumen, and spiritual awareness, how do you personally stay attuned to your own growth and clarity so that you can continue helping others reach their fullest potential?

Katy Hansell: I make sure to recharge so that when I engage with clients, I am fully present and energized. I invest in habits that lift my energy and broaden my perspective.

I actively seek out experiences that challenge me and spur my growth. Conferences that focus on global innovation are particularly engaging for me, and I try to attend them whenever I can.

Focusing on personal growth doesn’t require extravagant experiences. Simple practices like nurturing self-compassion, surrounding myself with inspiring people, and engaging in physical activities like walking in my neighborhood all play a role in supporting my overall well-being.

The simplest actions often have the biggest impact on my ability to learn and guide others in their learning.

Summary

Impact is directly related to purpose, alignment, and individuality. Through her proprietary process and intuitive coaching approach, Katy empowers clients with the tools, mindset, and energy to experience success from the inside out.
