Career educator and founder of Hall Pass Learning Solutions, Aviva Moore, with a career spanning diverse roles and settings, has continually pushed boundaries, challenging the status quo and championing the cause of personalized, human-centered learning.
Avivaās journey in education began with a thirst for knowledge and the desire to make a difference. āI went back to school when my 2 daughters were very young,ā she recalls. Opting for a Master’s in Secondary education, she acquired certifications in several subjects. Her foray into teaching exposed her to a wide range of educational settings and experiences.Ā
Driven by a relentless pursuit of learning and growth, Aviva Moore embarked on a journey that took her through every facet of the education sector. āI have had the fortunate opportunity to do just about everything in the field of education,ā she reflects. From classroom teaching to school administration, from tutoring to opening schools, Avivaās diverse experiences shaped her understanding of the education system’s complex challenges.Ā
Through these experiences, Aviva had the opportunity to work with low socioeconomic students (SES) in urban settings, students with language-based learning differences, and academically gifted students. āI was drawn towards historically marginalized populations of all different sorts,ā Aviva explains. āThey were students who were not within that narrow range of having their needs met in a traditional public school.ā Even the Annie E. Casey Foundation report published back in 2010 shows that reading proficiency by the end of the third-grade level is a national priority and advocates boosting learning schools for low-income kids.Ā
Avivaās quest for knowledge did not end at traditional avenues of education. She further pursued a doctoral degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Education, focusing on family involvement’s role in increasing student engagement in K through 12 online classes. This truly shaped her perspective. āMy education changed how I think about the world,ā Aviva reflects. āIt shifted my thinking to a more eyes-wide-open approach, revealing the pervasive problems and challenges ingrained within the education industry.āĀ
Central to Avivaās philosophy is the distinction between education and learningāa dichotomy that underscores her approach to empowering students. āThe most effective learning involves the human element,ā she asserts. We need to realize that children in the classroom are humans with needs, not just passive students filling seats.ā She advocates humanizing institutions across the board.
This career educatorās doctoral research in online classroom exploration started long before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing the critical role of interpersonal connections in facilitating effective learning, Avivaās findings underscored the importance of human interaction, especially in online educational settings.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Avivaās personal journey has been marked by resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Battling her health challenges while navigating her childrenās unique educational needs, this visionaryās experiences have further fueled her advocacy for personalized, student-centered learning. āMy children have also taken non-traditional educational paths,ā she shares. āWe need to encourage and empower students to take control of their learning, to be good at it, and the best versions of themselves.ā
As the founder of Hall Pass Learning Solutions, Aviva continues to champion the cause of individualized, student-centric education. Through personalized tutoring, consulting services, and a commitment to fostering advocacy and agency in students, Avivaās vision for a more inclusive and empowering educational landscape continues to inspire.
