By: Lennard James Memphis, TN – In a powerful return that blends legacy with renewed leadership, Memphis In May International Festival has officially announced Howard Robertson, Jr. as its newly appointed Chair of the Board of Directors. With decades of experience in marketing, leadership, and cultural advancement, Robertson's reinstatement brings energy, innovation, and a deep-rooted love for Memphis to the forefront of the city's most iconic annual celebration. Robertson’s return to the chairmanship isn’t just symbolic—it’s strategic. Having served as Chair in 2007 during one of the most celebrated and successful festival seasons in recent history, he brings seasoned leadership and an undeniable passion for the city and its cultural fabric. For more than 20 years, Robertson has played an integral role on the Memphis In May board, helping to steer the festival through pivotal transitions and celebrate Memphis' rich and diverse global connections. Robertson is no stranger to transformative leadership. He is the CEO and co-founder of Trust Marketing; a full-service advertising and public relations agency headquartered in Memphis. Under his direction, Trust Marketing has become one of the most respected Black-owned agencies in the region, working with national brands, regional institutions, and community-based organizations to deliver impactful campaigns that drive social and economic value. From healthcare initiatives to community engagement, Robertson has consistently used his platform to advance public good through strategic messaging and meaningful storytelling. Before launching his own firm, Robertson built a distinguished career in broadcast and media. He served as an advertising executive for national radio stations and later transitioned into entrepreneurship, driven by a belief that marketing should not only sell products—but also uplift communities. His ability to merge business goals with social consciousness has made him a trusted voice not just in marketing circles, but also in philanthropic arenas. Robertson’s leadership extends far beyond the boardroom. He is an active member of numerous local and national organizations, including the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and has served on various nonprofit boards dedicated to education, youth development, and the arts. A graduate of Rhodes College and a proud advocate for Memphis culture, Robertson has spent much of his career mentoring young professionals and using his influence to open doors for the next generation of creatives and community leaders. Those who have worked alongside him describe him as both visionary and grounded leader who listens before acting and builds consensus before moving forward. His leadership style is marked by integrity, inclusiveness, and an unwavering belief in Memphis as a city of promise, history, and innovation. As Chair of the Memphis In May Board of Directors, Robertson will help shape the strategic direction of the festival, ensuring that it not only honors the cultural traditions that make Memphis In May world-renowned but also adapts to the needs and values of a changing audience. With international partnerships, music legends, culinary showcases, and educational programs on the horizon, the upcoming festival seasons under his guidance are expected to be dynamic, diverse, and deeply rooted in community engagement.
