Dona’s professional path began in 2014, driven by a deep love for computer science and programming. She honed her technical skills at industry giants like Visa, Microsoft, Dropbox, and now Slack, where she develops high-performing, user-centric products. Yet, Dona’s impact extends beyond technical expertise. Her dedication to DEI initiatives has profoundly influenced her journey, turning challenges into opportunities for growth and leadership.

Building a Network Through DEI

Dona’s involvement in DEI initiatives opened doors to meaningful connections that have enriched her life. Her roles within these initiatives provided opportunities to interact with colleagues who shared her vision for a more inclusive tech industry. She served as ERG Lead at companies she worked for, collaborating with colleagues to reinvigorate the Women ERG group. This role refined her leadership skills and strengthened her appreciation for a supportive community.

Beyond her corporate endeavors, Dona’s volunteerism has been equally impactful. She founded the Dallas AnitaB.org local community, which gained recognition under her leadership. Her dedication and vision led her to become a Global Volunteer Leader for AnitaB.org, overseeing more than 40 communities and thousands of volunteers worldwide. This role connected her with professionals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, broadening her worldview and enhancing her ability to drive meaningful change.

Growing Through Mentorship and Impact

These connections have been pivotal to Dona’s growth, providing valuable mentorship and actionable feedback that boosted her confidence. Inspired by the guidance she received, Dona now dedicates her time to mentoring junior professionals, helping them develop skills, refine resumes, and prepare for interviews. Her support extends beyond technical guidance as she connects mentees with valuable resources and networks, empowering them to succeed in their careers.

Dona’s work in DEI has given her a holistic view of the tech industry, where empathy and inclusivity are as essential as technical expertise. Her experiences have made her a more innovative problem solver, and she applies these lessons in her current role by creating welcoming environments and designing products that address a wide range of needs.
