With over two decades of dedication in the field of education, Antonio has not only honed skills as a teacher and principal but also emerged as a leading advocate for the pivotal role of fathers in family and community development.
From Classroom to Community Leader, Harvey’s journey in the world of education is marked by significant achievements. A member of Kappa Alpha Psi. Having spent 15 years in the classroom, his experience as a teacher laid the foundation for his understanding of the challenges and opportunities in education.
His leadership skills were further honed through roles such as elementary principal, assistant principal, and resident principal. It was during his tenure at Hawkins Mill Elementary School that Antonio’s leadership prowess truly shone, transforming it into a Level 5 school.
His commitment to professional growth led him to participate in the New Leaders program, where he gained invaluable insights into leadership and teacher development. This experience equipped him to take on the role of a community manager for Memphis Shelby County Schools, focusing on developing programs and training for Family Engagement Specialists.
Recognizing the crucial role fathers play in the well-being of children and families, Harvey co-founded FathersFirst. This advocacy group is built on three foundational agendas: advocacy, capacity building, and community organizing.
Harvey’s own experiences as an educator and father have imbued him with empathy and compassion, driving his commitment to support fathers facing challenges such as mistreatment in the family court system and parental alienation.
Harvey’s advocacy is also deeply personal. His struggle for joint custody, hindered by financial biases in the family court system, highlights the broader injustices fathers often face. The experience has fueled his mission to ensure that fathers are not only recognized, but also supported in their crucial role in their children’s lives.
Harvey’s, a proud product of City of Memphis and its local school system, has been academically prepared by the University of Memphis and Tennessee State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in educational administration, respectively. His recent accomplishments of an educational specialist degree from Walden University further underscores his commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
