Megan Porta’s journey from a small-town Iowa upbringing to the forefront of the food blogging industry is one of resilience, creativity, and sheer determination. Born into a world where her parents’ divorce prompted frequent cross-country moves, Megan eventually found stability in her hometown, graduating with a degree in Art and English from Buena Vista University. From the start, her path has been shaped by a drive to explore her artistic talents and the pursuit of time freedom, something she has recently achieved meaningfully.

After graduating, Megan launched her career as a graphic designer, a role she held for 15 years. But life had a different plan. When she was let go from her design job, what initially felt like a setback became the catalyst for her entrepreneurial journey. “It was a blessing in disguise,” Megan reflects. Having started her food blog, Pip and Ebby, a year and a half before, Megan was ready to dive headfirst into turning her passion into a full-fledged business.

Pip and Ebby officially launched in 2010, and by January 2012, Megan committed to blogging full-time. The food blogging industry presented its share of challenges, including a significant blow in 2018 when a Pinterest algorithm update impacted her blog’s traffic. Yet, instead of retreating, Megan leaned into learning and networking. Her perseverance paid off, and in July 2019, she launched the Eat Blog Talk podcast, a resource aimed at helping fellow food bloggers avoid the mistakes she had made.

In addition to the podcast, Megan introduced mastermind groups in 2021. These groups have steadily grown, becoming a key part of her brand. “Every year, the groups have become more and more successful,” Megan shares, and the community built around her platform continues to flourish.

Megan attributes much of her blogging success to the skills honed during her time as a graphic designer. Whether designing logos, creating ebooks or managing her websites, her background has been instrumental in her growth. This hands-on experience, along with her vulnerability and transparency, set Megan apart in the crowded blogging space. “My story is an open book,” she says. There’s nothing I hold close to my chest.”

Her podcast’s unscripted style and her emphasis on mindset and self-care distinguish her from other food blogging podcasts and resources. Megan strives to provide a holistic approach to the business that acknowledges the importance of balance. She understands that a sustainable business requires both personal growth and professional success. “Burnout is real, and it can destroy a business if you don’t take care of yourself,” she notes.

Megan’s brand is built on values that mirror her personal beliefs—authenticity, sincerity, and respect. She is committed to supporting her fellow food bloggers, creating a space for voices to be heard, and helping others find the freedom she worked hard to attain. It’s not just business for her; it’s personal. Megan’s empathy and willingness to uplift those around her are at the core of everything she does.

Megan’s goals include massive growth for her podcast and continued success with her mastermind groups. She’s also excited about her latest venture, the Flavor Media Summit, an exclusive event serving advanced food bloggers, which she launched in 2024 with a business partner. As Megan moves forward, her dedication to her community and passion for food blogging continue to drive her success.
