In early 2024, Fang Ruibo was recognized with the Itech Annual Leadership Award, a prestigious recognition in the renewable energy and technological innovation sectors. This award is given to leaders who have made significant contributions to advancing clean energy solutions, fostering sustainable development, and influencing the transformation of the industry. With a rigorous selection process evaluating innovation, impact, and leadership, the Itech Annual Leadership Award is regarded as a notable marker of excellence in the field, highlighting some of the influential figures in the future of energy.
For Fang, receiving this award is not just a personal milestoneāit serves as a reflection of the progress his company, Zenergy, has made in contributing to the renewable energy landscape.
“The award is a great honor,” Fang reflects. “But more importantly, it underscores the positive strides our industry has made in recent years. We’re not just building energy solutions; we’re helping to shape a more sustainable future.”
A Technological Mindset for a Green Industry
Fang’s journey into renewable energy was not conventional. His path began not in a laboratory or a solar farm but in the world of IT. Before co-founding Zenergy Co. Ltd, he spent several years leading digital transformation initiatives at Hewlett-Packard (HP), Pearson China, and other multinational companies. His work focused on optimizing business processes through technologyāa skillset that would later be valuable in tackling energy efficiency and grid management challenges.
“My IT background offered a unique perspective on digital transformation’s potential across industries,” Fang shares. “When applied to energy systems, this technology showed comparable promise in overhauling outdated infrastructureānot through small improvements, but through more substantial changes.” He explains, “The energy sector was no different. The more I learned about distributed energy systems, the clearer it became that technology could play a pivotal role in how we produce, manage, and consume power.”
This realization led him to Suntech Power Ltd in 2017, where he contributed to advancing digitalization projects within the solar energy sector. It was there that he noticed an important gap in the industry: the future of distributed solar power wouldn’t only depend on improved panels but on smarter management systems. This insight formed the foundation of Zenergy Co. Ltd.
Transforming the Energy Landscape

Since its founding in late 2022, Zenergy Co. Ltd has established itself as a player in digital asset management for solar power. Under Fang’s leadership, the company developed ZenovaOS, a platform designed to enhance the operational efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) assets. The company also introduced autonomous solar panel cleaning robots, addressing the long-standing challenge of solar farm maintenance while reducing labor costs.
But innovation alone is not enough. Strategic partnerships have played an important role in Zenergy’s success. Over the past two years, the company has formed strong collaborations with big companies, working together to develop smarter, scalable renewable energy solutions.
“We’ve always believed that technology should serve the industry, not the other way around,” Fang notes. “That’s why we focus on developing practical, data-driven tools that help companies get the most out of their clean energy investments.”
Beyond Business: A Commitment to Sustainability
For Fang, the mission of Zenergy Co. Ltd goes beyond profitability. His vision is to make renewable energy more accessible, efficient, and sustainable. He is particularly passionate about energy conservation and emissions reduction, areas where the company has already seen progress.
“One of the main challenges in solar power is efficiency loss due to poor maintenance and suboptimal grid integration,” he explains. “That’s why we’ve focused on developing AI-driven monitoring systems that detect inefficiencies and make real-time adjustments.”
In addition to optimizing energy use, Zenergy is addressing solar panel waste. The company has introduced a panel recycling program, ensuring that retired PV modules are repurposed rather than discarded.
“Renewable energy isn’t just about generating clean powerāit’s about creating a truly sustainable ecosystem from production to disposal,” Fang emphasizes. “That includes what happens to solar panels at the end of their life cycle.”
Bridging Academia and Industry
Fang also believes that the future of renewable energy will depend on deeper collaboration between industry and academia. To this end, Zenergy Co. Ltd has been working closely with universities and research institutions to explore next-generation energy storage solutions and AI-powered grid optimization.
“There’s so much potential in this field,” he says. “The key is to bring together engineers, data scientists, and policy experts to develop solutions that are not just technologically advanced, but also practical and scalable.”
For Zenergy New Energy, the roadmap is clear: expand internationally, refine its digital platforms, and foster the next generation of energy innovators.
“We’re still in the early stages,” Fang says. “There’s so much more we can do to make clean energy smarter, more efficient, and more accessible. And that’s what motivates me every day.”
As the conversation ended, a clear consensus emerged: Fang is not merely participating in renewable energy innovationāhe is working to redefine industry boundaries through technological insight and strategic vision. By integrating digital expertise with energy infrastructure, he has positioned Zenergy not only as a solutions provider but as a leader in the ongoing transformation of global energy systems. This blend of digital intelligence and energy infrastructure reflects both his personal commitment to sustainability and his contribution to the global shift toward cleaner energy.
