Howard Lind has played an important role in the national security of the U.S. He serves as the president and executive director of the International Stability Operations Association (ISOA). In his career, Mr. Lind has represented private sector service companies that work with the Department of Defense, the United States Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and other government organizations.

In his leadership role at the ISOA, Mr. Lind combines his expertise and knowledge from serving in the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the business world. The association is committed to cultivating connections and partnerships between the public and private sectors through engagement and networking with governmental agencies. 

The ISOA works with organizations and government policymakers worldwide to foster long-term stability and growth in some of the world’s most unstable areas. Its programs focus on the organization’s four Pillars: member company success, partnerships and outreach, government advocacy, and research and analysis. Since Mr. Lind became president of the ISOA in 2016, the membership has grown from 35 corporate members to more than 200.

Mr. Lind and the ISOA are currently focused on two significant areas of concern: Taiwan and Ukraine. Mr. Lind has visited Ukraine three times for conferences, and the ISOA hosts a monthly Ukraine Working Group Zoom Meeting.

Regarding Taiwan, Mr. Lind is concerned with a possible Chinese invasion and China’s significant influence over the Indo-Pacific region. He is concentrating efforts on diplomatic developments in the area.

The ISOA has a new committee called Cybertechnology Innovation, which Mr. Lind believes is vital in dealing with the cyber world. Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) will have large ramifications for everyone. The ISOA will have a panel dedicated to the subject at its annual summit in November in Washington, D.C. 

Under Mr. Lind’s leadership, the ISOA has also expanded its attention from a more narrowed focus on the U.S. Department of Defense to include policy and development from the United States Agency for International Development. There are many regions in the world where stability operation services are needed. Mr. Lind asserts that creating connections between companies that can provide those services and government agencies is very important.

Mr. Lind is also focused on the Women, Peace, and Security Act passed in 2017. The law advocates for all U.S. agencies to foster and advocate for women in leadership roles globally, politically, and in business, education, and society. 

Mr. Lind points out that the United States is being asked to help “in many areas around the world.” Under his leadership, the ISOA responds to those requests for assistance. He understands that the government cannot accomplish everything asked of it without the assistance of the private sector. That is where the ISOA plays an impactful role on the global stage.

Mr. Lind is proud of the ISOA’s professional staff. The association’s three code words are “ethical, accountable, and transparent.” Mr. Lind and the ISOA staff abide by the law, written and unwritten, even when dealing with countries where there is corruption.

“I have played a very important role in contributing to the national security of the nation over the years, both in my role in the military and in having more effective, innovative, ethical contractors to support national security efforts. I am excited and proud to be a part of that mission,” Mr. Lind says.
