Miami, FL – July 31, 2024 – The Voices For Children Foundation, dedicated to supporting children in Miami-Dade County’s foster care system, hosted their annual “Back to School” event, making a significant impact on 350 foster children. This year’s celebration ensured these children are ready for the upcoming school year with new uniforms from Old Navy, shoes from Famous Footwear, backpacks brimming with school supplies, and $75 Publix gift cards. Additionally, the event offered an opportunity for these children to feel valued and supported by their community, reinforcing their confidence and excitement for the new academic year.
“Every child deserves to feel confident and prepared on the first day of school,” said Kadie Black, CEO and President of Voices For Children Foundation. “Our annual Back to School event provides the essentials they need to succeed, alleviating a burden for their caregivers and showing these children they are cared for by our community.”
The event, held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Old Navy store in the Shoppes at Dadeland, was a special VIP shopping experience for school-aged children in foster care, represented by the 11th Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Office. The children were able to select their favorite outfits and supplies, creating a sense of ownership and excitement for the upcoming school year. While the event was not open to the public, members of the news media were invited to witness the joy and excitement of the children as they prepared for the new school year. This initiative highlighted the importance of community involvement in supporting foster children, demonstrating that a collective effort can make a significant difference in their lives and future success.
Amanda Demanda Injury Lawyers played a crucial role in this year’s event by donating 350 high-quality book bags and water bottles, further enhancing the support provided to these children. This generous contribution ensured that each child not only received essential school supplies but also a sense of pride and confidence as they prepared for the upcoming school year. The event also saw contributions from other great sponsors, whose generosity helped make the day a success. These sponsors, along with community volunteers, worked tirelessly to create a memorable experience for the foster children, emphasizing the importance of community support in the lives of these young individuals.
This impactful event was made possible through a longstanding partnership with Old Navy, which began in 2011, and additional support from Temple Beth Am, and generous community donors and volunteers who helped collect, organize, and distribute the school supplies. The partnership with Old Navy has been instrumental in ensuring that the children receive not only the supplies they need but also the encouragement to succeed in their academic endeavors. The combined efforts of all involved truly embody the spirit of giving and community, reinforcing the idea that it takes a village to support and uplift these children.
