From personal adversity to professional achievement, the entrepreneur, trainer, and community leader is embracing a new chapter shaped by service, love, and the belief that it’s never too late to discover what’s possible.
Long before Lisa Bass Hughes became an entrepreneur, business trainer, or community leader, her parents instilled in her something that would shape the course of her life: a heart for serving others.
It was a lesson that went beyond words. Caring about people, lending a hand, and making a difference in someone’s life became values she carried into adulthood, long before she understood how deeply they would influence her career.
Then life presented a challenge that would give those values an entirely new purpose.
Lisa spent three years and more than $100,000 in attorney fees navigating a legal battle she never wanted. She remembers the experience vividly: the frustration, the uncertainty, and the overwhelming feeling of being powerless in a situation that seemed beyond her control.
What she couldn’t have known then was that one of the most difficult chapters of her life would ultimately help define her life’s work.
In 2008, Lisa discovered LegalShield and recognized an opportunity to help others avoid the same feelings of helplessness she had experienced.
What began as a deeply personal mission evolved into an 18-year career dedicated to helping individuals, families, and small business owners gain access to legal and identity protection resources.
Today, Lisa, who is based in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, is founder of Your Benefits Pro and is a LegalShield Regional Trainer serving North and South Carolina.
Her work focuses on helping small businesses provide meaningful benefits to employees who might otherwise lack access to affordable legal assistance and identity protection.
Ask Lisa what matters most about her business, and the conversation quickly moves beyond products and services.
“It’s the people behind the product,” she says.
It’s a philosophy rooted in the values her parents taught her and one that continues to shape how she approaches business, leadership, and life.
The Power of Consistency
In an industry where enthusiasm can fade and circumstances constantly change, Lisa has built her business on a principle that has served her for nearly two decades: consistency.
For 216 consecutive months, 18 uninterrupted years, she has qualified for LegalShield’s Performance Club, the company’s longest-running recognition program.
Yet Lisa is quick to point out that the recognition tells only part of the story.
Behind every month of recognition were commitments kept, relationships nurtured, and the decision to continue showing up even when circumstances weren’t ideal.
For her, consistency has never meant simply doing enough to maintain the status quo.
“Don’t make your minimums your maximums,” she says.
It’s a philosophy that challenges the idea that reaching a goal means the work is finished. Success, she believes, requires both the discipline to remain consistent and the courage to continue raising your expectations of yourself.
That mindset has shaped her business, but it has also influenced the way she serves her community.
Building Relationships That Matter
For Lisa, networking has never been about collecting business cards or measuring success by the number of contacts in a database.
It’s about people.
In January 2020, she began leading a business networking group called Networking Works.
When the pandemic disrupted traditional networking, the group transitioned from in-person gatherings to a virtual format. What could have been a temporary solution became a lasting community where entrepreneurs could develop relationships, exchange ideas, and support one another across geographic boundaries.
In 2022, the group became part of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce community, where Lisa also serves as a board member, and was rebranded as the Connection.
Lisa believes the strongest business connections develop when people take time to understand one another before looking for opportunities to do business together.
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” she says.
That belief reflects the same spirit of service she learned growing up. Whether she’s connecting two business owners who might benefit from knowing one another, mentoring a new entrepreneur, or helping someone navigate a challenge, Lisa finds fulfillment in creating opportunities for others.
To her, the most valuable thing you can build in business isn’t simply a network. It’s a community of people who genuinely want to see one another succeed.
When Experience Meets a New Level of Intention
After 18 years in business, Lisa has accumulated professional recognition, leadership experience, lifelong friendships, and a reputation for consistency.
By most measures, she has already built a successful career.
In 2026, she began asking herself a different question.
What if there was still another level?
Lisa has invested in personal and professional development throughout her career, attending trainings, learning new strategies, and surrounding herself with successful people.
Yet she began recognizing an important distinction between acquiring knowledge and applying it.
She had been busy learning. Now she wanted to become more intentional about implementing.
Through the Go Pro Certification and Mentorship program, Pitch Like a Pro, and Next Level Speaker, Lisa began refining her communication, strengthening her storytelling, and challenging herself to become a more effective speaker and leader.
Rather than treating each training experience as another event on her calendar, she focused on what she would do differently afterward.
The change produced measurable results.
In 2026, her business production doubled compared with the same period in 2025. Her business results reflect her individual experience and are not guaranteed. Results vary.
For Lisa, the significance extended beyond the numbers.
After nearly two decades in the profession, she has demonstrated to herself that meaningful growth wasn’t reserved for newcomers or those at the beginning of their careers.
Experience provided a foundation. But continued growth required the willingness to learn and grow.
She also recognized that some of the greatest obstacles she had encountered weren’t external.
There had been moments of self-doubt, periods when she questioned her capabilities, and times when familiar routines made it easier to remain comfortable than to pursue something bigger.
Overcoming those internal barriers became as important as mastering any business strategy.
The realization was both humbling and empowering: sometimes the next level isn’t waiting for circumstances to change. It’s waiting for us to change the circumstances.
A New Chapter Beyond Business
While Lisa was experiencing renewed professional growth, another meaningful transformation was unfolding in her personal life.
On April 24, 2025, she married her husband, Tim.
For someone who has spent much of her adult life building a business, navigating challenges, and investing in the success of others, marriage marked the beginning of a deeply personal new chapter.
It brought the opportunity to share not only accomplishments and adventures, but also the everyday moments and future dreams that give those experiences greater meaning.
As Lisa entered her 60s, she found herself embracing an important truth: personal fulfillment and professional ambition don’t have to compete with one another.
There is room for both.
Her marriage is an important part of the future she looks forward to, a reminder that life’s most meaningful milestones aren’t always the ones celebrated on a stage or measured in business results.
After years of helping others pursue their dreams, Lisa is also making room to appreciate and enjoy her own.
And rather than viewing this stage of life as a time to slow down, she sees it as an opportunity to be more intentional about what matters most.
Fuel Your Brilliance
That renewed sense of possibility has helped inspire Lisa’s newest endeavor: a personal speaking and leadership platform called Fuel Your Brilliance.
Its message is simple:
Ignite Your Potential. Protect What You’ve Built. Fuel Your Brilliance.
For Lisa, the platform represents more than a professional expansion. It’s the natural evolution of lessons learned over a lifetime.
She believes many people carry extraordinary potential they have yet to recognize, often because fear, self-doubt, past experiences, or limiting beliefs have convinced them to expect less of themselves.
Her goal is to challenge those assumptions.
Through speaking, training, and mentorship, Lisa hopes to help people recognize their strengths, build confidence, and take meaningful action toward the lives and businesses they want to create.
Her message is particularly relevant to those who feel they’ve missed their opportunity to begin again.
Lisa’s own experience suggests otherwise.
At 60, after 18 years of consistent business performance, she’s still learning new skills, pursuing new goals, and discovering new possibilities.
And while personal empowerment is central to her message, she believes protecting what you’ve worked to build is equally important.
That connection between potential and protection brings together her experience as an entrepreneur, her work with LegalShield, and the heart of service that has guided her since childhood.

Fuel Your Brilliance is not about suggesting that success comes without setbacks or uncertainty.
It’s about helping people recognize that neither their past nor their age must determine the limits of their future.
The Measure of a Meaningful Life
For Lisa Bass Hughes, success looks different today than it did when she first began her entrepreneurial journey.
The recognition has been gratifying, but it has also given her something less tangible and far more lasting: perspective.
She has come to appreciate that some of life’s most meaningful achievements can’t be measured on a balance sheet or celebrated on a stage.
As a trainer, she finds fulfillment in the moment someone begins to believe in themselves differently. Watching confidence replace hesitation, and seeing that confidence turn into action, is a reward that never loses its significance.
It’s also changed the way Lisa thinks about her own future.
Rather than measuring the years ahead by how much more she can accomplish, she’s becoming increasingly intentional about how she wants to spend them, the experiences she wants to embrace, and the difference she wants her presence to make.
There’s a quiet confidence that comes with realizing you no longer need to prove your worth through your achievements. You can simply continue growing, contributing, and enjoying the life you’ve worked so hard to create.
For Lisa, the question is no longer, “How successful can I become?”
It’s “What can I do with the success I’ve earned?”
And perhaps that’s the most exciting part of her story.
After 18 years, she’s no longer just building a business.
She’s building a legacy.
