Some careers evolve through bold pivots, and for Yuehui Du, a designer driven by empathy and systems thinking, the decision to focus on healthcare wasn’t just professional. It marked a personal shift: one that moves away from chasing the next big innovation and toward creating work that’s grounded, intentional, and meaningful in people’s everyday lives.

With a background in architecture and immersive technology, Yuehui spent years building intuitive experiences for cutting-edge platforms like AR glasses and XR operating systems at Rokid and Samsung’s “Project Moohan.” But it wasn’t the novelty of emerging tech alone that kept her attention; it was the potential for technology to serve a deeper purpose.

In recent years, Yuehui began to question what truly matters in today’s world: “High-tech innovation is exciting, but in an economically sensitive and emotionally strained time, I started thinking more about care, well-being, and what we actually need as people—right now.” This reflection sparked a pivotal shift in her career: from crafting XR experiences to designing tools that prioritize human health and emotional wellness.

That turning point came with Erbal, a wellness e-commerce startup where Yuehui led the end-to-end experience design. She created an AI-assisted shopping journey that helps users explore personalized herbal remedies based on their unique health needs. Her work wasn’t just functional; it told a story, clarified brand values, and guided users with empathy. The result was one of the first AI-integrated, wellness-centered shopping experiences in the space, which quickly became recognized for its innovative approach to combining technology with well-being. The project earned recognition across multiple design disciplines, receiving awards in branding, communication design, and UX.

Yuehui’s commitment to purposeful design goes beyond individual projects. She believes that design’s true power lies in its ability to foster genuine connections between people and the solutions that affect their lives. She takes pride in designing with an understanding of the human experience, knowing that the impact of her work can extend far beyond the screen. Whether in healthcare or wellness, her focus remains grounded in creating solutions that contribute meaningfully to people’s lives. Her designs are intended to empower individuals, offering them control over their well-being while also promoting a sense of security and peace.

Building on that momentum, Yuehui joined Connect for Patients, a healthcare AI startup, as a founding designer. In this role, she brings both strategic vision and hands-on design leadership to the table. While she doesn’t disclose product features publicly, she describes the experience as deeply personal: “This work lets me channel everything I care about, including designing for clarity, trust, and support, into a product that aims to meet people where they are.”

What sets Yuehui’s journey apart is how it reflects a larger evolution in the design world. While much of tech chases scale and speed, she is focused on grounding innovation in care. “Design is more than problem-solving, it’s how we build systems that aim to respect people’s time, health, and emotions,” she says, emphasizing the importance of thoughtful, human-centered design that nurtures both individual well-being and collective impact, with an emphasis on sustainable solutions that can evolve alongside human needs.

Her vision for the future of design focuses on long-term impact rather than short-term trends. Yuehui sees the role of design evolving into one that fosters more inclusive, sustainable, and holistic solutions. She is optimistic about the growing intersection between technology and wellness, believing that with thoughtful intention, the future can bring technology that is deeply connected to human well-being.

For Yuehui, that’s what design with purpose looks like: quietly powerful, deeply intentional, and always in service of something more meaningful.
