Ann Yates, in Memphis, TN, is a distinguished figure whose impact reverberates throughout Memphis society. Renowned for her exceptional leadership, social and political advocacy, and unwavering support for local politics, Ann has left an indelible mark on her community through her lifetime of service and dedication.Ā Ā 

Raised in the vibrant Klondike community, Ann’s childhood home served as a hub for numerous civic organization events during the transformative 1960s. This upbringing instilled in her a deep-seated passion for community projects, a passion that has driven her efforts throughout her life. Her steadfast dedication is evident in her active involvement in social and political fundraisers, as well as her tenure as a board member of the Memphis Black Arts Alliance from 2014 to 2018.Ā Ā 

Ann’s commitment to community engagement was evident from her early years at Klondike Elementary School, where she laid the foundation for her lifelong dedication to serving others. Her academic excellence and captivating performances as Drum Majorette at Manassas High School further showcased her talent and leadership abilities.Ā Ā 

Fueling her passion for creativity and design, Ann pursued a major in Art/Interior Design at Memphis State from 1963 to 1966, securing five scholarships during her time there. Her entrepreneurial spirit emerged early on, leading her to found Talent Search Associates in 1965, where she showcased her ability to spot and nurture talent.Ā Ā

Transitioning into the corporate world, Ann established the PR firm ETC and Associates in 1971, leaving an indelible mark on various industries with her exceptional communication skills and strategic prowess. Her success in the automotive industry, including attending General Motors Dealership Training School and excelling in sales at Potamkin Cadillac, paved the way for her to found A.R. Phillips and Associates, a thriving car dealership service company.Ā Ā 

In 1989, Ann returned to Memphis, opening “Specially For You,” a retail store in Overton Square, further solidifying her reputation as an innovative entrepreneur. Her journey led her to Houston, TX, where she assumed the role of Head Designer for OfficeMax’s Systems Furniture Business until 1998 before establishing Office Cubicles Company.Ā Ā 

In 2018, Ann’s passion for fashion materialized in the luxurious clothing boutique “The Bazaar,” situated in the heart of midtown Memphis. Throughout her extraordinary life, Ann has received numerous awards and honors for her unwavering dedication to the local Memphis community. However, her proudest achievement remains her role as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, embodying the strength and compassion that define her character.Ā Ā Ā 

Ann Yates, an inspiration to all, continues to inspire, uplift, and create meaningful impact in the lives of those around her. Her unwavering commitment to fostering positive change and unity within the community stands as a timeless example for generations to come.
