In every city, from the energetic streets of Huntsville, AL, to the tranquil avenues of Kyoto, a silent battle rages. This isn't a conflict chronicled in history books or splashed across headlines, but one fought by everyday heroes armed with determination and an unwavering commitment to preserving beauty and cleanliness. The enemy? Urban decay is visible in the litter and grime that taint our public spaces. In this fight, one story shines brightly, echoing the narratives of DC Comics or Marvel Comics—it's the story of Erick Wade, known as the "Huntsville Hero," who is on a remarkable mission to inspire global action against urban neglect.
Erick Wade's journey is not just one of ordinary civic duty; it's a tale of heroism that has earned him the prestigious BRONZE, SILVER, and GOLD Presidential Volunteer Service Awards from President Joe Biden, along with a commendation letter from the White House. He takes pride in being among the few in Alabama to have earned all three awards, a rare achievement in the region, with records indicating that only a handful across the entire South have even received one. These accolades were bestowed upon him for his dedicated volunteer work in Huntsville, Alabama, where he is affectionately known as the "Huntsville Hero." In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Erick Wade was also awarded the Masonic Hiram Abiff Award by Worshipful Master Carl Cooney of Temple Lodge 98 of Huntsville, Alabama. Beyond his environmental efforts, Erick is a proud member of one of the oldest, most prestigious African American organizations in the world, the Alabama Prince Hall Masonic family, Huntsville, Alabama, and has been honored and acknowledged by local leaders such as Mayor Tommy Battle and Governor Kay Ivey, even extending all the way up to President Joe Biden.
