When you get out, you’re not that anymore. You have to ask yourself, who am I?” Leaving the Army was an emotional struggle, challenging him to rebuild his personal identity.

Returning home, Rayburn became a stay-at-home dad, facing challenges in a role dominated by women. “I was seen as an intruder in Mommy and Me classes,” he recalls. This experience highlighted societal double standards and further broke him down. “Equal didn’t really mean equal,” he reflects, adding to his challenging transition from military to civilian life.

Despite these challenges, Rayburn began to rebuild his identity. His love for jewelry, sparked by the joy it brought his loved ones, led him to start selling items on eBay. “I started looking on eBay to see what sells and stumbled into the jewelry world,” he explains. This initial venture was the start of a journey that eventually led him to digital marketing.

Rayburn’s entrepreneurial journey took a significant turn after a severe truck accident. Launched over a 40-foot embankment at 70 miles per hour, he sustained a broken back and other critical injuries. Unable to walk for two months and mentally shattered, Rayburn faced one of the hardest periods of his life. Through sheer determination and three years of physical therapy, he regained the ability to walk, albeit not like everyone else. “That period was one of the hardest in my life,” he admits. His physical recovery mirrored his emotional healing and ultimately led him into jewelry making.

“Jewelry making became my therapy,” Rayburn explains. It helped him heal physically and reignited his passion for business. “I used jewelry making to recreate my value again.” This period of creativity led him to open a brick-and-mortar storefront, which eventually pushed him into digital marketing. “The jewelry store did fine, but our online success made neighboring businesses seek our help,” he reminisces. This was the beginning of SEO DC.

Rayburn’s approach to SEO is rooted in continuous learning and adaptation, emphasizing the importance of testing and staying ahead of industry changes. “If you’re not doing testing, how do you know?” he asks.
