Founder and CEO of iMoving, Meyr Aviv, joins us for an interview to discuss improvements to the relocation process. These days, moving can often involve surprise fees, inconsistent service, and outmoded methods, and Meyr Aviv aims to change that. His firm, iMoving, strives to make the moving process more transparent, easy, and convenient.
With more than two decades’ worth of combined team experience behind him, Aviv started iMoving out of frustration with what he describes as the “wild west” of moving services: an industry where many consumers were frustrated, misinformed, and unprotected. Today, iMoving offers an alternative to the conventional moving model by enabling consumers to book carefully screened movers online—no home visits, no calls, and fewer surprises. This interview catches up with Meyr Aviv to see how he’s working to build trust in an industry that often lacks it, and what the future of moving could look like from his perspective.
Q: Meyr, can you share your journey from entering the moving industry over 25 years ago to founding iMoving? What experiences led you to identify the need for a platform like iMoving?
I’ve been in the moving industry for over 25 years, and I’ve worked at all the different stages of the process. Delivery, dispatch, every step. I noticed that no matter how far you’re going or how big your house is, it’s often a challenge to find the right moving company for the job. It’s hard to get started in the first place. It’s not always about the big names and the big brands.
When I started iMoving, I wanted to make booking a move as straightforward as booking a hotel. That’s why we keep the whole process online. It’s a significant improvement in quality of life and ease of use. We provide our customers with everything they need to know about a moving company before they book: ratings, customer feedback, services, and, of course, the price.
Q: The moving process is often seen as stressful and unpredictable. How does iMoving simplify relocation for customers, and what innovations have you introduced to make moving more seamless and transparent?
When people want to book movers, they usually have to shop directly on a mover’s website. They have to enter their information over and over, and they go through all these extra steps just to get quotes that might not even meet their needs.
iMoving functions like a one-stop shop. Customers enter their information just once. From there, they can compare options across a whole marketplace of moving companies. They can even pick and choose the exact services they need.
We also keep the whole process online. Customers don’t have to deal with phone calls or in-home estimates. They just tell us what they need, describe what they’re moving, and they can complete their booking with just a few clicks.
Q: The moving industry has faced issues with transparency and trust. How does iMoving’s platform ensure that customers connect with vetted and reliable movers, and what measures are in place to maintain service quality?
Vetting is a rigorous process. A big part of iMoving is helping customers avoid scammers, so if a mover is in our marketplace, it means we’ve conducted thorough research. We look at safety records, customer feedback, completed moves, and more. That’s how we aim to make sure a mover meets our standards.
We also monitor them regularly. Once a moving company is on iMoving, we periodically call them up and pose as customers. It’s secret shopping. This is just to verify our movers are still maintaining quality, and they treat all customers fairly.
Q: With over two decades of experience, how has your understanding of customer needs influenced the development of iMoving’s features and services? Can you provide examples of customer-centric innovations that set iMoving apart from traditional moving companies?
Unlike traditional movers, iMoving is structured like a marketplace. We compare it to Expedia or Kayak, but instead of booking a vacation, you’re booking a move. Customers input their information once, and then they get to shop through a whole list of moving companies that offer the exact services they want.
That’s another customer-centric innovation: personalization. We know every move is different, so we let customers pick the exact services they need. One person may want full packing, and somebody else may want storage. It’s all there in the marketplace.
Q: Technology plays a significant role in modernizing industries. How does iMoving leverage technology to simplify the moving process, and what future technological advancements do you foresee integrating into your platform to further enhance user experience?
Everything is online these days, so we focused on making booking a mover entirely online too. When our customers use iMoving, they don’t have to make any phone calls to moving companies or deal with in-home visits—those are often inconvenient. Instead, they do everything online. It’s designed to be just a few clicks. Streamlined.
We’re also exploring AI to make it even smoother. Everyone is experimenting with AI in their workflows, and there could be good applications in the moving business. We’re considering providing personalized moving recommendations with AI assistance.
Q: Looking ahead, what are your plans for iMoving’s growth and expansion? How do you intend to continue transforming the moving industry and addressing evolving customer expectations in the coming years?
We cover the lower 48 states and have over 1,000 movers in our marketplace. We’re always looking for new moving companies to join our network.
Aside from expansion, we’re planning on launching new programs for veterans and underserved members of our community. We even started two scholarships, one for students and one for vets and members of military families.
AI is also a growing focus. We’re going to see how we can use AI to provide customers with personalized moving recommendations, further simplifying the booking process.
Summary
Meyr Aviv, as this interview highlights, is focused on fostering trust and ease in an industry that’s overdue for disruption.
