There’s a transformative wind blowing through the tech start-up scene, and it’s being fueled by a potent mixture of tenacity and vision. At the eye of this whirlwind is Diego Mariscal, the disabled and proud CEO and Founder of 2Gether-International (2GI), a non-profit organization that’s redefining the entrepreneurial landscape for Founders with Disabilities. With a laser-focused mission, 2GI emboldens these founders to elevate their start-ups to industry pinnacles, rightfully claiming their space in the competitive business ecosystem.

Diego Mariscal’s journey is one of resilience and unwavering determination. Born with cerebral palsy, he’s lived the reality of navigating a world not built with him in mind. Yet, he’s turned what some might consider an obstacle into an asset, exemplifying the very ethos 2GI stands for – a world where Disability is seen as a competitive advantage in business.

Having already forged vital partnerships with heavyweight entities such as Comcast NBCUniversal and Google, Mariscal’s leadership at 2GI has generated a synergistic platform where disabled entrepreneurs are no longer on the outskirts. He’s a beacon of inspiration, leading from experience as he serves on the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission’s Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee, advocating for systemic change.

“2GI supports Disabled Founders by connecting them with the resources they need to create thriving high growth, high impact startups,” Mariscal states with resolve. “We’re challenging the entrepreneurial ecosystem at large to flip the narrative, and see disability as a competitive advantage for businesses.” This isn’t just about support; it’s a clarion call to shift perceptions and integrate diversity as a cornerstone of innovation.

Since its inception, 2GI’s footprint has been undeniable. Its launch of the first accelerator in 2019 paved the way for over 80 startups to participate. The ripple effect has been profound; these businesses have collectively raised roughly $65 million in funding, signaling a significant tide turn in investor confidence and acknowledgment of the untapped potential within the disabled founders’ community.

The programs designed by 2GI aren’t just fillers; they’re meticulously crafted springboards that equip entrepreneurs with invaluable skills and access. Cohorts (the accelerator programs), are akin to elite training grounds, honing the strategic acumen of disabled founders. Venture Labs cater to idea-stage creators, a launchpad for those at the drawing board of innovation. Meanwhile, the planned apprenticeship program in partnership with BuildWithin is the first-of-its kind for people with disabilities, complete with tailored on-the-job training and curriculum for the roles of Startup CEO and Startup CFO.

Furthermore, 2GI is launching a fund specifically for Start-up Founders with Disabilities and is currently working to raise $5 million USD. This sits at the heart of 2GI’s vision, dealing with a stark reality: founders with disabilities are often the overlooked gems in funding rounds. With this initiative, Mariscal and his team are not just leveling the playing field—they are crafting a new game where disabled founders are sought-after players.

The international community 2GI has nurtured speaks volumes about its effectiveness and reach. Over 600 founders with disabilities from 15 countries stand as a testament to the transcendent nature of its mission. Numbers don’t lie, and in this instance, they herald a burgeoning global movement.

To connect with Mariscal’s brainchild and fluctuate between being a contributor or beneficiary of this enterprise, the world is at your fingertips. You can visit their website, follow their insightful engagements on LinkedIn, and join the conversation on Facebook.

In the realm of entrepreneurship, 2Gether-International isn’t just a player; it’s a game-changer. Under Diego Mariscal’s stewardship, it’s empowering disabled founders to not only dream of a level playing field but also to build it, one innovative start-up at a time.
