“Watching my mother balance academia with entrepreneurship taught me invaluable lessons about leadership and perseverance,” she reflects. “She demonstrated that you don’t have to choose between intellectual pursuit and business acumen – you can excel at both.” These early influences shaped Dr. Carmen’s approach to education and business, leading her to pursue multiple advanced degrees while building her consulting powerhouse.

“I noticed a recurring pattern in leadership development,” Dr. Carmen explains. “Many programs focus solely on skills and strategies but miss the crucial element of personal connection and meaning. At SP Grace, we help leaders align their practices with their values and what’s important to them and their organizations.”
Her approach has been applied in various sectors, including automotive, manufacturing, healthcare, banking, and law enforcement. “Every industry has its unique challenges,” she notes, “but the fundamental principles of effective leadership remain constant – authenticity, empathy, genuine regard, and the ability to connect with people where they are while still holding them accountable.”
Launching into Educational Empowerment
Never one to rest on her laurels, Dr. Carmen’s latest venture, ELEVATE by SP Grace: The College Smarter Method, focuses on a revolutionary approach to helping college-bound students stand out when they apply, a natural evolution of her commitment to educational empowerment. Her success inspired this initiative in helping numerous parents and students navigate the path to college with less stress, spending less time, and with impressive results. She even used her innovative method to steer her daughter’s path to the study of neuroscience as an undergraduate student at Harvard University.
“One of my passions is helping young people craft a strategic plan for their college and career journey,” she explains. “I’ve seen firsthand how a well-crafted narrative and a thoughtful approach can open doors to incredible opportunities. It’s not just about getting into the ‘right’ college – it’s about helping these young people discover their true potential and equipping them with the tools they need to succeed.”
Her expertise in this area is deeply personal. “When my daughter was applying to colleges, I helped her craft unique application components that told a compelling story about her strengths, passions, and aspirations,” she recalls. “That approach helped her stand out and ultimately gain admission to several amazing and impressive schools, including Harvard, Cornell, the University of Michigan, Spelman College, and many others.” There has been growing interest in her assistance and methodology in recent years. She decided that it was time to more formally structure and share her “secret sauce” for her innovative, groundbreaking approach to applying for college.
The program integrates Dr. Carmen’s extensive background in career and leadership development with her several years of experience on the speaking circuit (in the speaker’s bureau) for Monster Worldwide (a global leader in connecting people to jobs), talking to thousands of high school and college students about how to prepare for the next steps in college and career. “My own educational and professional experiences plus my passions all seemed to dovetail at a time that points me directly to this work,” she reflects. “What I love most is that I get to help young people craft their own stories and shape their paths to WIN in their lives.”
Her approach is particularly unique in college admissions coaching because it focuses on helping students develop the unique strategies that meet them where they are, elevate their position, and help them stand out when applying for college, all while decreasing their junior and senior year stress.
