The Weeknd is tied to rapper Roddy Ricch for the most AMA nominations for this year. A singer and a rapper are tied for most of the American Music Awards this year.

Dua Lipa announced on Monday, the nominees for the “American Music Awards 2020” (AMA) in three categories on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

This year, The Weeknd and Roddy Ricch lead the group with eight nominations each, with Megan Thee Stallion taking home five names. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Doja Cat, and DaBaby each garnered four nominations.

Taylor Swift holds the record for most AMA wins ever with 29, and could further cement her record-holder status if she takes a win in any of the four categories she was named in and was also named “Artist of the Decade” at last year’s ceremony.

Taylor Swift recalled a year of ups and downs being named both Artist of the Year and Artist of the Decade at the American Music Awards.

The pop superstar took home six awards at this year’s AMAs, bringing her total to 29, organizers said, beating Michael Jackson’s record of 24.

The Artist of the Decade honor was announced well ahead of Sunday night’s ceremony. Still, Swift also won the most significant award of the night, Artist of the Year, from Drake, Ariana Grande, Halsey, and Post Malone.

Accepting the award for the latter, telling the audience gathered at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles that the last 12 months had given her “some of the most amazing times” as well as “the hardest things I’ve gone through in my life.”

Swift, 29, is embroiled in a high-profile feud with famed talent manager Scooter Braun and her former record label for the rights to his six-album catalog – a dispute that briefly put a cloud over his performance at LOVES.

Megan Thee Stallion, who was nominated for the first time, earned five points, making the rapper the most nominated female artist this year. Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and the first nominees DaBaby and Doja Cat each garnered four nominations. Bieber, Swift, and Post Malone join Roddy Ricch and The Weeknd as nominated in the Artist of the Year category.

Swift is currently the record holder for most of this category with five and could break her record for most AMA wins of all time, 29, if she succeeded in any of the four categories in which she is currently nominated.

Last year’s crossover success of Latin and R & B / hip-hop genres has led AMAs to expand their categories.
