Former Jehovah’s Witness Elder, Charlie McCoy, Builds His Alux Brands Business Empire in NYC

Hindrances to personal growth and success can come in different forms. People who are in pursuit of their goals could find themselves contending with the lack of knowledge and skills necessary to translate their vision into reality, inadequate resources, a lack of social support, and more. At times, these challenges could be inherent in their environment, as was the case with Charlie McCoy, a master barber turned entrepreneur who is now making waves in the industry. Using his position at the summit to create a positive impact, he serves as a source of inspiration for anyone who has ever felt trapped in their situations. 

With the number of accomplishments that Charlie McCoy has had racked up over the years, it could be easy to assume that he joined the game with a head start, which couldn’t be any further from the truth. Unfortunately born into adversity, this powerhouse not only had to face what it means to be Black in a world where racial injustice remains rampant but also had to deal with the implications of being born into a religion disconnected from the rest of the world. 

As a Jehovah’s Witness, Charlie McCoy felt boxed in. Yet, by taking risks and going after what he wants, he managed to create a unique standing for himself, establishing his name in the cutthroat commercial space. 

Today, Charlie McCoy takes credit for the founding of two highly successful ventures in New York City, earning recognition for keeping them both afloat amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. His barbershop, Artisan Barber, located at the Upper East Side, and the unisex luxury salon, Orchard & Ludlow, that calls the Lower East Side its home are both products of years of experience and the dedication to establish his brand. 

Long before he decided to launch his enterprises, Charlie McCoy has always been fueled by the desire to have more control and involvement in any of the endeavors he is going to delve into. Now, he is propelling his businesses to the forefront of the entrepreneurial scene despite the debilitating impact of the current pandemic. More impressively, he introduced three new brands to the commercial realm, two of which are in completely different industries than the haircare industry he is fond of. 

Acting as the parent company, Artisan Luxury Brands is a consumer goods authority composed of the Artisan Barber, Orchard & Ludlow, and two of Charlie’s new other brands — The Grooming Alchemist and Artisan Media Group. The Grooming Alchemist is a rising men’s lifestyle hub, providing services especially to former Jehovah’s Witnesses who are in need of guidance after leaving the religion.

Meanwhile, Artisan Media Group is a full-service marketing and creative agency specializing in marketing, brand development, and media advertising across diverse categories and segments. 

Through Artisan Luxury Brands, Charlie McCoy is set to dominate another industry. Breaking out of the haircare space and dipping his toes into creative media, he is expected to rise through the ranks in the coming years. 

As Charlie McCoy and Artisan Luxury Brands continue to deliver results for their clients, the former Jehovah’s Witness plans to touch countless more lives. He hopes to encourage them to take control of their circumstances, be aggressive with their goals, and take that step toward realizing their dreams even amidst challenges. 

“I had to figure out everything on my own with virtually no help. All the connections I’ve made, the business savvy that I now possess comes from failing multiple times and having the courage to try and try again,” Charlie McCoy shares, sending across a powerful message about perseverance in the face of difficulties.
